Hello, i have a 99 slt with the infinity system.. Although heres what i changed..

*JVC-kd810 head unit
Alpine Type R 6.5 coaxial in Fronts
Alpine Type R 5.25 coaxial in Rear
These are powered my a 4 channel sony amp model xm-554zr (my brother had this in an elantra)
Seeing the weather here in ohio really isnt the greatest to by working with audio.. I haven't had the chance to by pass the factory amp... I know it sound better with the factory bypassed... Now for my qustion. Would you sell the 5.25 rears and replace them with another set of 6.5's ? or just keep the those and just add a pair of boxed 6x9's?

umm ok you aren't making any sense here.

you say you have the 4 speakers powered off the 4ch sony amp, but you don't have the factory amp bypassed? you can't have both hooked up so which is it?

i would keep the rears the same because they aren't that important anyway. they are just there for extra fill and the sound should be faded slightly forward anyway. if anything you should add a sub not boxed 6x9's.

ok sorry for the confusion... i do have speaker wire running from the sony amp to the head for all 4 speakers... although the factory amp is still in the kick panel which i believe isnt bypassed and must be running too. So that must be the problem, i almost forgot to add i do have a 8'' low profile pre amped sub from soundstorm.. although i must have a ground problem.. bc it shuts off after a minute of running... So as far as the speakers go with a set of 6.5' to replace the 5.25? Reason askin i like my music loud and not all distorted..

wow, ok....

well it seems you are a little new to this. the reason it sounds like garbage is because it's hooked up entirely wrong and not the speakers. the 5.25's are fine for the rear unless you feel like spending more money on them to upgrade. you can if you want but i wouldn't. the sub is either not grounded good like you say or something else is hooked up wrong or with too small of cable.

if you are running an amp you do NOT use the factory speaker wiring. you do NOT run the new wires to the deck or to the harness. the amp gets wired directly to the speakers and you should be using 16ga speaker wire. you need to run a new line to each speaker from the amp. the stock amp has nothing to do with it and isn't in the picture anymore. you need to unplug the harness from the back of the deck so it's not hooked up. you will only be running RCA's to the new sony amp and using that for direct power.
