The whole system has roughly 2qts in it, If you just drained the reservoir(pump) that is less than half the total.

however never run the pump until it is dry, as caulk04 stated, even if it doesn't kill the pump it will inject air into the fluid and make the pump noisy.

The PSF vs ATF deal is realy screwy. I hear some years say PS fluid in the manuals and others say ATF+4. To my knowledge they all use the same pump. If you are completely flushing, it either will work fine. What is not advised is adding one type when topping off or partially draining a system that already has the other still in it.

That's a tough call. The real way to do it is to have the pump push the old fluid out. But the pump moves the fluid pretty quick and is realy easy to run it dry. You would need a few bottles open in wait and a second person who is quick to pour but won't dump it on your belt.

it is possible to take the belt off and spin the pulley by hand, that would be slow going.

also just thought of this, if you need to bleed the system have the front wheels off the ground and turn the wheel lock to lock slowly, engine running, lightly tapping the locks. This prevents the system going into high pressure.

That would suck for him.. looks like they changed the pump design. Instead of $56 for a top o the line remanufactured old style one like I got to replace mine... it's $100-160.

you can order factory parts from 3rd party vendors online. Just google "dodge parts". There is an upper and lower shaft and is also different for 2wd and 4wd.
