DUDE!! Five people have said to check your shaft isnt that sign?????????? I have seen many many many Dakotas with seized shafts in one spot. spray some rust penatrate and turn the wheel side to side should fix your problem.

Or just replace the fucking thing. That's nothing more than a band aid.

Actually has some penetrating oil here at work. Soaked it down about fifteen minutes ago. At lunch, after it sits for a while, I'm gonna go for a cruise. When I come back, I'll let you know the results.

If it is the shaft, is that a dealer only item, and whats the approximate cost?

I got mine for around $200 from the stealership. My truck is a 4x4, though.

For the record, my steering was binding up some due to the fucked up u-joint on the intermediate shaft, and it got bad enough that it started clunking when I turned the wheel. The steering was also really sloppy right before I found the problem.

Thanks for the info! My truck is a 4x4 also. I did some checking around online and found a place the has them for about $150 including shipping, so I'll have to make up my mind later when I'm 100% positive that's the problem!

BTW, did yours come with new bolts, also?

I'm pretty sure it came with new bolts. I was really surprised at how much better the steering got when I replaced it.
