Ok So I pretty much know that my starter is going, the last coupl of weeks I have to try mutliple times to get it to crank over, so I think maybe the synloid (sp?) may be going. I can't really complain its the orginal starter and the truck is 8 and a half years old with 247,000 miles on it so I think I got my moneys worth on it...lol

Now what brand and type should I go with? I plan on replacing it this weekend just dont know what to replace it with .....

thanks in advance :biggthump

Are you sure its not the battery? I have one if you want to give it a try and see if it starts ok.

Ya, you were too vauge on the description of the problem, but if you do need a starter go with a powermaster.....but im not sure if they make starters for our trucks...they should tho and thier Awsome starters

battery or starter?

Usually when the battery is going the truck will start but die unless you keep the rpm's up. It seems like the choke isn't working. Had that happen on my dakota and the other day on my durango. durango started fine in morning but was just about dead when I tried to start it after work. Next morning it just clicked. No green showing in battery window. As for the starter, it could be the solenoid. do you have headers by any chance? sometimes they may pass too close to a starter and the heat will make them fail. On mine it just turned but the starting gear didn't engage as the solenoid was burned out by the heat. I looked into that gear reduction starter once but they didn't make it for a Dakota.
