ok so my fan belt is squealing when I hit the gas, and when I let off the gas from a high (3500+) rpm... anyone got any Ideas? I changed the belt and the tensioner and idler pulleys and it still does it...Im actually wondering if its the fan clutch??? Truck has 81,xxx miles on it...5.2 L ... HELP!!!

damn...a gen II with less mileage than me.....didnt think that would happen. take some pb blast/wd40 and spray down your ac compressor clutch....just an idea
tried it...made no difference...also drove it 100 mi this afternoon and it squeaks bad from 2000 rpm to the rev limiter unless I have it pegged...if its pegged it stops squealing at 4000 rpm... and yup i got a great deal...when i bought it 3 years ago it had 62788 mi...i paid under $4g with tax title and license...thing was friggin spotless other than tha rear bumper...I think All the gen 2s have rusty bumpers...:funny:

Thanks bogieboy. I hadn't thought about the waterpump. Good possibility. The pumps I've had to replace didn't squeak---they just dumped coolant all over!
yup...mine was going thru 4 gallons a week...It was summer and I just drained the rest of the coolant and filled it with water) filled it up with the hose before I left the house...drove it to school and back, rad was bone dry...:rant::rant: damn weep holes...:rant::rant:

Im kinda thinking its the fan clutch...could I just pull it off( the fan assy) and drive it around the block or so? just keep an eye on the temp gauge?

if its got the V belts then you can take a scotch bright pad to the inside where the belt rides that will stop the squeeking, and new belts if needed.

if its a serpentine belt then try taking off the belt and cleaning it with warm soapy water then DRY it completely, if it has any cracking replace it.

Ive done both with good effects.
It is a BRAND FUCKING NEW belt...replaced it cuz the old one was squeaking...the new one does the same damn thing!!!

did they do the same exact squeak in the same rpm band as the old belt?

yeah, it doesn't squeak at all at idle... Ima try pulling the fan off tommorow... but for now...time to go to bed... Adios amigos!!!

the noise is right down the middle, did the "poor mans stethoscope" trick, couldnt find any abmormal sounds...will try the carb cleaner trick if pulling the fan doesnt do it...

I spray some throttle body or brake cleaner on it to get rid of any oils or maybe glues on the BACKSIDE of the belt if it squeaks.

Brian
I did that yesterday, along with hitting it with a scuff pad and Armor-all and the squeak is gone...for now at least!!!!!!:bow::bow:

nope...does it in neutral at a stop light too.....Its defiantly the belt. I put armor all on the belt and the squeak goes away for a week.....put more armor all on, get another squeak free week.....

Had 3 different brand belts....duralast, Goodyear, and a third I cant remember...all of em squeak...its not the fan clutch...tried the stuff you mentioned...exactly how it should be...only thing I haven't changed is the tensioner itself...changed the pulley tho...

when I take off the belt, the tensioner requires a crow bar against the frame to get it off...then it goes out from where the belt sits around an inch...not binding at all...
