He just upgraded to 65" tall tires from a tractor. He built this thing in his backyard.

gees! those are awesome trucks! if i had a truck that big i'd be the guy walkin into the party "hey who owns the s-10?...i accidently parked on top of it" lol.

guy i know, lives in hortense, im sure rebel's heard of it, we have the off road park there, where they had trucks gone wild, etc. hes got a f350, idk year maybe 04 05 on 49s with the 7.3 its his DD. i can get pics off his myspc let me see.

Yea these trucks are not street legal, now wether or not than cab be made street legal I dunno. Im not sure what the bumper and light height laws are exactly. The biggest thing is that they only have a top speed of about 30 mph.

#24 ·
Varies by state, but do you really think that he uses that as a daily driver now?

#21 ·
You have to have the money, if you take a 6 year old vehicle off the road for mudding only, You sure can't legaly drive that on the street.

#23 ·
I think really the only requirements they would have to make are mud flaps and lower the lights. Thats what my buddy had to do with his silverado that had 53s with a 20-30" (I forget) lift. He drove it almost every day haha

That and I also dont think anyone makes a "disk brake kit" for 5 ton axles?
there are some custom one off wheel brake kits out there for 5 tons... studlybilly did wheel brakes on his 2.5 tons for ~$600.

there 2.5 ton rockwell (military) axles. there are no brakes on the hubs it slows down the drive train rather then the wheels.
neither truck is on 2.5 tons. :nana:

Agree!

Some people just have to much money

When you have to start buying tractor tires instead of mudders, your to big!
if you try and go to any big event on any DOT tire, you're just going to spend your day getting stuck.

btw - this is cheaper than racing.

my truck is 10 years old.... and no, it doesn't get driven on the street.

Very cool! I really love the Chevy HD's of that vintage, specially Reg / Longs.

The Pinion brake is a very 'efficient' way of braking. You use the gearing to your advantage. It's also hella easier to work on (durh, only one right out in the open front and rear)

That being said, I don't believe that pinion brakes are OTR legal PERIOD. Also, full hydraulic steering is a no-no for street legality (Non 'self centering')
correct... pinion brakes are illegal and unsafe for street use.

there is no law that says you can't run full hydraulic steering.

they are not geared properly, they are way to low. they hit the revlimiter in 4th gear and dont even try to spin the tires.

still BADASS trucks. i think its AWESOME to see a properly built mud truck and not one that cant flex out!! love the flexin pics.
the black truck has too much gear, but that's only a 5 minute gear swap in the transfer case. it won't be the miracle you're thinking though....

the tan truck was geared perfect on the old tires. i would just hold ~5500rpm in 1st. we'll see on the new ones. i have a bad knock sensor in the dirtfarm video, so i'm lacking some power.

this is what it does when the knock sensor isn't taking away all my timing...

Incredibley badass! Those things are sick.

What size gear are they running anyway?
tan truck is 5.26 in the transfer case and 6.44 in the axles.
black truck is 2.73 in the stock t-case, 4.29 in the aftermarket case, and 6.44 in the axles.

the black truck is over geared by a long shot.

it's that way for the same reason our military humvee's have them there. it's easiers to slow the rotation of a drive shaft down then heavey tires

having said that.... i'm still not sure why we don't use that setup on our 7 tons.... lol.
humvee's are still on the axle shaft and don't get any help from the gearing.

doesn't really matter. they're on the pinion because it's cheap and easy. it's not a race car, we hardly use the brakes.

they make a kit for disc brakes on all for corners. seen it on extreme 4x4

if you break an axle you lose your brakes! unless you have a locked axle.
why would anyone build a mud truck with open axles?

damn fine fabrication there! needs to do some mods to that motor tho
doubtful.... it goes anywhere anybody else does. it's too big to put on a show with horsepower, so why bother with it at all?

i'll kick back with my stock exhaust, cold a/c and go anywhere the big motor guys go... without any stress.

What! 13k? The truck is worth more than that! How much were the tires?

He got stuck at the end cause he had no momentum and No wheelspin. Wheel speed is key. They aren't rock crawlers. I'm not saying they can't build a truck cause those are the sweetest mud trucks ive seen. Just overkill on the gearing.
it's a 2000 with 295,000 miles that had been worked hard, it's whole life.... it wasn't worth anywhere near 13k.

hell, i'll sell you my 01 duramax for 13k. it's a nice truck. :D

oh... and both of the trucks get stuck because they don't have a tall enough tire. the day of that video, the black truck made it the farthest and won cash for doing so. hell, my no horsepower junker won $1000 in perry beating out plenty of big horsepower trucks.

once you step into tractor tires.... it's not really about horsepower anymore.

Not sure if I missed it and I couldn't tell in the video but are these guys running diesels? Having a nice built diesel with 1500+ft/lbs would get those tires turning pretty easily...
the F350 is a 6.0 diesel.... both of the GM's are 6.0 gas motors. i haven't been all that impressed with the diesel trucks....

that thing is just begging for a Big Block under the hood!
the guy with the black truck had a shaffiroff 582 in his last truck.

he sold it to build a stock motor creeper. they're way more fun.

yeah.... those 6.0 are good motors.... but they need something that can hold 6k on the tack, o well... guess one step at a time....
my rev limiter is 6200 (efi live). i typically hold ~5500rpm in black mud. the clay will bog me down some... the black truck is still stock rev limiter.

Its easier to stop all that weight with the brake there instead of out on the axles. Im sure there is a much better explaination to it than that though..lol
I think its easier on parts too.

The professional monster trucks do it that way to.
