Does anyone read Hot Rod? Apparently Mopar is making a 440 sb with 500hp.

Based off a new 340 four-bolt-main block, they are looking to make 500 hp and 536 ft lb of torque. Also coming out is a 410 magnum with 465 hp and 500 tq.

Some speck of the 410 -

4.040 bore
4.00 stroke
9.7:1 compression
292/292 duration came w/ 0.508/0.508 hydraulic flat tappet cam
R/T heads with big valves
topping it off....
Six pack holley power (2x3) :mullet:

the 440 -

NO RAISED DECK!
Siamesed-bore (don't know what that is) 340 with a 4.180 bore
everything else is the same as the 410 except for new aluminum Commando heads (remember the Commando's?) and m-1 intake.

Pricing is TBA but scheduled for mid-2006. Can't wait, who'll be first to drop one in? Damn college, I'll take out a larger loan, I want one :banana2:

A 410 and a 408 are the same things, ones .30 overbore the other is .40 over.Just guessing, but the 440 is probably a race block and if its not its probably more money than i would want to spend.P.S. BUT I LIKE THE WAY YOUR THINKING :banana2:

No the 440 SB isnt a R block it is based of the New 340 siamese block, and no the 410 isnt the same as a 408 or 402 which are based of the 360 block. The 340's have a Bore of 4.04 Standard whereas the 360 is 4.0 . LONG LIVE THE 340 :mullet:

Wow! I wish I could put something like that in my truck. Too bad I'll never have enough money for it. :drive:

Sam, a siamesed block means there is no water jacket between the cylinders. They're joined with the casting material (cast iron or aluminum). Hence "siamesed". They're not only a stronger block, but there's more material to bore for a larger than .030 over piston.

If you know the right people you can get a 408 built with the same horsepower and torque, it will be completely streetable, and it will be cheaper than the new Mopar crate motor.

You also have to wonder if our stock accessories are going to bolt up, and what intake manifold is it going to require? Will an M-1 bolt up or is this new motor a starting point for a whole new product line?

I think that someone is eventually going to reignite the aftermarket for the 360/408 Magnum and make people think twice about going to Chebby or Ford. I'll stick with 408's for a while.

Still, my hat is off to Mopar for continuing to design and produce strong products for us, and I look forward to seeing where this new motor goes in a few years. Maybe the new Challenger?

There's a couple of pictures of the 440 block if you look at the SEMA 2005 pictures - I spoke with a Daimler-Chrysler exec and they confirmed the block dimensions are the same as a 340 so they recommended it for use in a Dakota instead of the 392ci Hemi I was drooling over.
