When I have my windows rolled down, cant hear it when they are up, and I shift my truck into any gear from park there is a rapid clicking type noise, kinda sounds like some kind of servo motor? Im no trans mechanic so im not sure what it could be, any help? By the way its a 2003 QC 4.7 with Auto tranny
Thanks.

If it happens only from park to gear, lasts a second or two, then I would say it is normal. Every Mopar that I have owned since my 96 sebring has done it, I believe it is a solenoid in the trans. I am sure that someone can chime in with more detail.

does it go away? if it only happens when shifting from park to gear, try starting the truck in neutral and letting it idle for a few seconds in neutral.

I don't know much about these new trannys but I know on the old 727s the pump didn't engage until it was out of park, and that's why it always said to check tranny fluid hot, and in neutral, with engine idling.

what it could be, is that the fluid is draining back from the converter, so it takes a few seconds for it to fill back up when the pump engages. when its low on fluid in the converter, you could be hearing the inner hub rattling around until it fills back up with fluid. by letting it idle in neutral, you let the pump get the fluid going again.

now, if its there, and it NEVER goes away...then I got nothing.

Yes, it should do it. It actually does it during all gear shifts, but you can't hear it.

What it is, is the computer modulating (switching on/off real fast) the solenoids to engage more smoothly. If it didn't modulate the solenoids, it would bang into every gear and eventually damage something, nevermind how annoying it would be.
