The guy who painted my truck said he would take my cat off to make the exhaust sound a little better. I was against the idea at first but have been reading up on cat removal. My truck is a 99, so sensors before and after. If i just tie the after sensor to the frame and plug it, I shouldn't have any problems with CELs correct? That's what I pulled from the dozens of threads I read through but just want a final opinion before I let him do it to see how it sounds. If it's too loud for me he said he could just put it back on. I'm also looking into replacing it with a high flow cat and Magnaflow 14''

I have a 98 and when it was stock with no-cats I zip-tied the rear o2 to the frame, I didn't see any codes. I say do it. Ohio has no test anyways or at least around here they don't.

I have codes now though, evap but I don't care if the lights on. I can turn it off when ever with SCT for awhile until it comes back on.

I might see how it sounds and decides than. After my cat I've got a glass pack but that's it. I'm getting rid of my duals anyways and dumping it right before the bed so I just wanted to experiment with it.

I have full 3" single exhaust on my 3.9L with a moroso spiral flow muffler dumped before the axle. Its extremely loud. My motor is pretty build though so its super throaty all the way through but its so loud and throaty you can feel it in your chest. But my truck being OBD1 only has 1 o2 and the PCM doesnt care if I have an offroad exhaust at all. Alterntaively i think the fastman sells o2 sims.

Why are people so afraid of punctuation? I had to read that 4 times before I understood what you meant. lol.

Yeah when I first glanced at what he said I thought he meant it sounded better with a cat because without a cat it's obnoxious like a 4 cylinder. Apparently I'm wrong. I think?

I think this is what he meant.

"i have the cat off. it sounds way better than it used to. what sounds obnoxious is a 4banger with out a cat."

So a 4 cylinder sounds bad without a cat, but a V8 sounds fine?

Yeah, he's very much a hypocrite and obviously didn't have the capacity to learn anything past about the 3rd or 4th grade.

Probably stop by the exhaust shop and get everything I need and weld it together and hope the sensors don't cause me too much problems. If the guy doesn't mind chopping off a cat i'll just let him do it but I'm just guessing they aren't "allowed."
