It's not that unusual... When I was 12, I started working in my mom's boyfriend's restaurant. I worked about 20 hours a week (mostly on weekends) while I was in school, and 40+ hours during the summer. Although I waited until 16 to buy my first car (used 81 Camaro Z28), I had enough dough saved for a car long before I was 16. I paid cash for my first handful of cars, didn't finance my first vehicle until I bought a new Talon TSi when I was 22.
