any reccomendations? ive heard to stay away from a "dry" shot and also have heard that timing needs to be pulled. i want to use the alum heads so increasing comp. wont be a problem but what should i limit it to since it will sprayed has to run on pump gas.
edit: anything else i should beef up for NOS?
I have run nitrous for about 9 yrs now and this is how I do it:

I use a Nitrous Express Gen X kit, which has pills ranging from 50-150. I would invest in a bottle heater and a gauge. A purge is optional. The heater is a must though. Te fuel will be delivered at a set rate, no matter what. The nitrous delivery depends on bottle pressure. The closer you are to 1,100 psi, the better it will hit. Anything less and you will run rich, which is almost as bad as running lean.

On my stock internal 5.9, I ran a 100 shot. Many, many bottles. I'd hit that bitch getting on the highway, if someone was trying to stuff me. Through all the years and bottles, I have never burnt so much as a spark plug electrode.

I run a stock ignition system with an Accel coil, good wires and a 1 step colder plug. A lot of people use the Autolite 3923, which is fine. It will run decent n/a, but it's prefect for nitrous too.

I don't like any kind of controller. That's just one more thing to get in my way, or cause a problem in the long run. I like to hit my nitrous right out of the hole. If that scares you, you can simply take off, then flip the arming switch while you're rolling. I don't like hand held buttons either. Nitrous has a ton of torque and you need to concentrate on driving, not holding down a button. The system will have a toggle to arm it and a wide open throttle switch, to keep the system from spraying at anything less than w.o.t..

To summarize: you don't need to pull timing with a 100 shot, or less. I run a 150 shot on my 408 and I don't pull any timing on that either. The only thing I do different, is the colder plug and hotter coil. And tires..you will need good traction.

i dont want a full race motor. i want something that will drive on the street EVERYDAY and maybe get half ass decent gas mileage. However, id like to be low 8s in the 1/8. if i can do that w/ heads, cam, intake, etc. w/ a stock bottom end, then thats what i need to do. but it would definatly increase the "cool" factor to have a stroker. i can afford 3grand to do a similar build as yours. i just dont know which direction to go in, in order to achieve my goal. i appreciate everyones response and i really enjoy a good debate, which is what i was wanting, to hear everyones oppinion so i can then form my own.
You're gonna need a pretty stout motor for low 8's.
My 408 ran 8.40's all motor and dyno'd 330hp/400tq at the rear wheels. I'd say I had about $5,500 in the first configuration. (I have run 3 different sets of heads and 2 different t/b setups) It's a very streetable motor, but it won't pass State inspection.

Im attempting to challenge that. i understand that more work will be required further down the road in order to reach full potential. im basically wanting to build the botom end, use factory heads and bolt-ons up top. basically a "bang for the buck" type deal that can be further upgraded later. maybe budget short block would have been a better title.
Well, good luck with that theory. Get back to us and let us know how it works out. :D
