Is it necessary to cut out any oil baffles in the valve covers when you upgrade to 1.7RR's. I have heard different opinions and am considering this upgrade.

You might have to knock out the baffles for clearance..if it isnt mandatory I think its suggested for flow...

Thanks all... love this place...

I was thinking about the HS non-adjustable 1.7's due to staying w/ a stock cam. I don't think I am gonna make this truck a rapped ape... just not worth it for a 6 banger... but I do wanna get some "grunt".

The V8 intake along w/ the RR's is a pretty good combo w/ the Superchips Tuner from what I can gather. So far I got 2 outta 3.

So just to be sure, the baffle-ectomy is more for flow concerns not clearance issuse right?

The baffle issue is for clearance so the vavle cover will bolt down flush, and so the rocker doesn't bang against the baffle. FYI, You'll still be able to add oil if you bang on the stock baffle. I'm surprized someone hasn't posted a pic of the modified stock cover. I myself went with Mopar valve covers. Good luck and have fun!

The non-adjustable HS 1.6 and 1.7 ratio rockers do not require baffle modification.

You will need to punch the OEM baffles or install aftermarket valve covers to clear the hardware for any brand/ratio of adjustable roller rocker.

i say pick up the adjustables, just incase down the line you wana do somthing else. i know alot of people that are having to rebuy parts cuz they "were done"

Get the adjustables. Once you get them on you may run across a good deal on a cam or something that would require a little tweaking. It would suck if you had to buy a new set of adjustables then, and hope to sell the old HS ones to offset the cost. Use a 2x4 or similar piece of wood and pound the baffles in. Strictly for clearance.

Thanks

Thanks for all of your answers,
Does anyone out there have pics of the "modified" valve covers?

I saw here somewhere a site with pics of the RR's being installed, but I would like to here about performance gains.
