Well, I was bored today, So I decided to clean my throttle body. Ive seen this asked, and a search turned up no pics, so I took the camera along with. If this is already on here, sorry.
The truck is an 03 dakota 4.7, 84,000 miles. I have removed and cleaned the IAC before.
Disclaimer: I am not a mechanic, so this is for info only, do at your own risk, and if I missed something let me know.
I needed: 5/16 nut driver, 10mm socket, 3/8 socket (iirc), 3/8 drive ratchet, 10 inch 3/8 extention, t-25 torx socket or nut driver, carb cleaner, q-tips, dry towel.
This is how it went:
Removed air intake (2 10 mm, 2 hose clamps).
Unplug sensor in intake, Air temp?, unplug IAC, TPS, evap vacum line.
Disconnect cruise (pull forward off of stud), disconnect throttle cable (pull cable around slot).
Remove TB, 3 3/8 (iirc) bolts around the edge of TB.
Cover intake hole with something so nothing gets in there. I just used a towel.
Remove IAC, t-25, mine took a little wiggling and turning to back it out, it has the two o-rings. Grab the body of the IAC not the plug, check o-rings for damage.
Clean TB with cleaner and q-tips, make sure to get the IAC intake port.
Clean IAC (this is a delicate part from what I understand) I sprayed a rag with cleaner and wiped it down trying not to move the plunger to much, just making sure it was clean and seating properly.
After it was all clean I gave the TB a spray to remove any lint, and leftover crap.
Reinstalled IAC with TB off so I could watch the o-rings go in.(be careful not to pinch, cut, or roll the o-rings)
Reinstall reverse order.
