ok, dont flame me for this, but i had a brain storm. i have an m-1 2bbl, and before i put it in i want to get a turtle for it. i know some people sell them, but what i was wondering was this. you know how some carb spacers are made out of wood, and are varnished? what about a turtle made the same way? then i could make it myself. i could make one out of metal, but i just dont have the time. i figured that if i use a good little block of hardwood to start with, and put enough coats of varnish on it, it will work just fine. plus, wood will be easier to shape considering the size i am working with. lemme know what you think.

I can't see any reason for wood to "decompose." A chunck of ebony would make a hell of a tough turtle. If you use something like oak you might have to replace it everly 20-30 years. It would virtually be a polyurethane case with a wood core.

Compared to other things that get sucked into the engine, carbon particles etc., wood fibers are very soft.

i dont know if i would be concerned about decomposition. but dont forget that the pcv valve does go to the intake and maybe over time the oily film that it would get on it might take the varnish off. i just think that if you are going to do it, you might as well do it right and go aluminum. especially since its not such a big deal to have one or not have one in the first place.
