on my exhaust i just hacked off my stock muffler and ran duals out the back w/ a y-pipe. if i cut the pipe after the y and put turndowns would it be louder? or would it change the sound at all? i basicallsy want something different than the same old thing.

With a 4.7 i wouldnt run straight pipes w/o alot of piping to the back. They are very raspy unless you get headers. I have a si/so magnaflow with a turndown. Even i get a raspy sound if i let off the gas to fast. But pops and crackles like a mother. I wouldnt do it again if i had the chance. Its very loud inside(rattles my interior). And its not very loud on the outside. Its deep but not loud. I plan on running true duals with an hpipe and either termintor or flo pro mufflers.

well mines loud and i love the popping and crackling thats what i want mine to sound like. right now they are all the way out the back. so if i like popping and crackling cut em off? and could i just leave them how they are and not put a tip on them cause im short on money right now. would it get to hot with the exhaust right under the truck??

It will get a little louder to everyone outside it, BUT it will get MUCH louder to you when you cut it. Mine is cut and dumped after the muffler and it is louder, but you hear it a lot more in the cab. At speed it creates a semi-annoying drone. Its livable because I still have the muffler. But since you have no muffler, that drone will vibrate your teeth loose. I really dont think you should do it. It will sound cool at first but you will get annoyed soon after.

But if you do decide to do it. Make sure you use turndowns and put it/them far enough forward of the rear axle so that you arent blowing hot exhaust on the rearend. Do not try to go without turndowns.

cool. thanks for he info. i guess ill leave them out the back and just get new tips cause i need them bad anyway. would 4 inch tips be any different in sound than the 3 inch ones i have now? i think they are 18 inches long

a turndown makes the exhaust quieter i use one on my cutout on long trips it's funny how a little bend can do so.
Around town I run my cutout without a turndown and it acctully is nice a mellow rumble but screams above 3k rpm and it's completely reversable to stock in 10 secounds! I was acctully going to buy a flowmaster suv muffler cuz i was scared of the noise but I now want it louder lol. I like all the noises the truck makes the po-po dont mind it eather.

the turn down itself shouldnt make that much of a difference for volume. It will depending on placement though. But when hacking off the tailpipes and using it instead, then it will be louder because the exhaust isnt traveling through all that extra pipe AND most importantly it is now dumped closer to the cab.
