Last night I filled up at a gas station I normally dont go to and after that I started getting detonation. I went home and checked the plugs and they all looked good no signes of detonation. This morning I emptied the tank and put a couple of gallons in to make it to the gas station. On the way there I got a mis on cylinder 7 so when I got home I put a new wire on and the miss went away. I then went out, and I still have detonation. I put the btm setting on 3 and I still get detonation. So then I moved the starting point from 3.5 to 2 and its still there. Can someone please help me?

I put some seafoam in there to see the carbon build up was causing it ( a/f is in high 9 low 10) but it didnt work. I get detonatin around 3300 to 4300 rpm. When I move the btm from 1.5 to 3 I get little to no improvement. Is there anything that sounds like detonation because my plugs are fine and taking out timing dosent help. I really need some advice.

ANYBODY??? Im going to put the restrictor back in the intake so I lower the boost. It may help seing how its hot outside and I dont have an intercooler. Where can I get a knock sensor?

well just a guess but it may have been bad gas and now you might have an injector partially or fully clogged....but just a guess

Check the vac line to your btm, if it came off you're not getting any timing retard, you should see a noticeable difference going from 1.5 to 3.

Intake leak maybe? Sucking in oil will make you detonate. Are you blowing any smoke?

Do you still have cats? Running that rich can kill your cats and a bad cat can sometimes make a rattling sound, which I guess could be mistaken for detonation. You need to lean that up to low 11's.

Vac line is good. That was one of the first things I checked. Also my boost/vac gauge reading has not changed, so thats another reason I know its good. Going from .5 to 1.5 made a huge difference so going to 3 should make a big difference but its still there. Thats why I keep thinking its something else.

What do you mean by intake leak. I have the m1 so its not the plenium gasket. I do burn a little oil once in a while but thats been happening since I put the s/c on and it goes away if I take the s/c off.

Yes I still have cats. My a/f is a freaking joke. I get good boost at 3200rpms and full boost at about 4300. From 3200-4300 im at about 11.5 but once I get full boost its in the low 10's sometimes 9's. I dont want to get another tune till I get the exhaust done.

Is there any type of rhythm to detonation? When I first experience detonation there was some what of a rhythm to it but thats not the case this time. How can I check to see if its the cats?

Sounds pretty silly...but check the voltage on your battery...and to your fuel pump. I just got back today and drove my truck for the first time in a week...and I was getting BAD detonation. First thing I checked was fuel pressure. It looked pretty low, so then I listened to the pump...sound a little week compared to usual, Then I checked the voltage and was only getting 9 volts to it. Turns out one of the bolts on my alternator was loose causing the battery not too charge. Which was causing my fuel pressure to drop.

Its probally not your problem...but something to check that only takes a few seconds.

My fuel pressure gauge is reading normal so I dont think thats it. I have two, one in the truck and one in the engine bay and they both read the same so I think the fuels ok. Im really starting to think its the cats. I adjusted the start point to about 1 on the msd and it felt like a dog so the timing retards working. I remember a while ago my exhaust started sounding funny (cracking sound) but now I think the cats are about done. More of a reason to get the exhaust done.

Running that rich I'm sure your cats are toast, mine went in about a month, and I was probably running about that rich. Do you need them for emissions? If not, just gut 'em, if you do then you'll need to get your tune in order, or else you're just gonna keep clogging them.

Yeah I need them for emissions :cussing:. What I think im gona do is wait a little longer to do the exhaust and get a tune as soon as im done.

Why dont you get some cats that bolt on with a flange...that way you can remove them when tuning and install them when you need em for emissions.
I was thinking about doing that. It would be like a test pipe for imports. I wonder how much it would cost?

bang on them with a rubber mallet. if they sound loose, thers your issue, or one of them at least.

well its definitly the cat. I hit it with a rubber mallet and it rattles. I wonder how much hp a cloged cat takes away?

a freakin lot. it was so bad on mine, i couldnt get past 85mph...fell on its ass when pushed hard. not, shes goes like hell. new cat, and that new aeroturbine. im waiting on the vht high temp paint. going to take it all down and paint it all up, grind down all the welds and all too. man, i cant wait to get the front half of the exhaust done too.

Im actually glad to hear that. I bet my new exhaust will make a BIG difference. Im going with the jm longtubes, highflow cats (maybe none), 3in dual piping with an x pipe and two 5 inch round 14 inch long magnaflow mufflers, and it will exit before the rear tires.
