OK I know mbrp doesnt make systems for our trucks anymore, so i was wondering what brand sound most like them. I'm not sure what im gonna do with my exhaust right now but i have a magnaflow with a turndown and there's too much resonance and I really don't like the sound too much. I wanna piece together a mbrp-esque system with the cuda pan and tips.

they quit making exhaust kits for the dakota period they just do ATV and Diesel truck exhaustID 4x4 said:

try aerochamber, or aeroturbine. www.aeroturbine.com get a nice kick in low end with these too.

Can anyone tell me what the muffler layout was with the MBRP when they did offer it. I have access to the line, and they may have the muffler still available that would allow you to build an "MBRPesque" system.

There's 2 systems on ebay right now from MBRP but they are for the 05+ dakota's. One is a split dual exhaust straight out the back and one is exiting on each side behind the tire. I wonder if this would fit the 97-04 Dakota's as well.

Well I work at a rental car company and we have them in our fleet. By looking at the backs of the trucks today the only differences I see is: A.The 07 has drum brakes, B. The axle bolts to the leaf spring differently (perch is on leafs, not the axle tube) C. The frame rails are boxed....but other than that, the rails don't look any wider, the gas tank is in the same spot, the exhaust looks identical other than the resonator on the 07, but other than that nothing looks much different.

be careful.
While the basic architecture of the trucks may not have changed, any one of several mounting points might have changed. It could lead to situation that only a muffler shop can fix.

redmed-Those kits are for extended or quad cab's-generally the only difference is the length of the pipe from the cat to the muffler (cut to size).
modifyouride-I agree, but sometimes the differences are very minut and easy to change by yourself. Plus theres some guys on ebay who are selling pre-bent kits for 97-07 Dakota's that "supposedly" fit without modifications.

I plan on goin to a muffler shop anyways So i dont really have to worry about that too much. Should i go for it or do you think a muffler shop will tear me a new one. They charged me 175 just when i bought there magnaflow and cut of my pipes after the muffler, And ghetto rig a turndown.

I had duals run with my mufflers for 225.00 on another vehicle.
If that is the case, let me know stock dimensions, and I will find the MBRP listing that is closest.
