(i do realize that they do absolutely nothing as far as performance is concerned). Now i got a AEM throttle body spacer along with my brute force intake in a deal for my 98 dakota r/t. i only wanted the TB spacer because of the "hiss" they sometimes make. However mine doesnt make any sort of hissing sound at all. Anybody have any experience with this? and how'd you get yours too work if so. its supposed to go under the tb right? (i have another friend with an R/T with one, and his has some hiss too it)

thanks

ummm the spacer shouldn't make any noise. if anything you are hearing a hissing sound because he has a high flow intake like a K&N or something. I think the hiss you are hearing is either from his iac motor when the truck is warming up or it is the sound of the air enter the intake manifold at certain throttle positions. I hear it all the time because of my intake.
If you like that sound for some reason, get an intake, an open element like the one i have is really noticable. I could go either way with the sound, i dont really think about it.
Ditch the spacer and use it as a paper weight.

haha, well i have a pretty good intake with the AEM brute force, definately feel a difference compared to the edelbrock air hat i had on her. but im pretty sure it wasnt the intake but who knows.

What intake does your friend have?

I'm pretty sure the "hiss" your talking about is due to the air intake and has nothing to do with the spacer.

Like ucimaplaya2 said, I have an open element air filter and I hear it all the time.....and I absolutely love it like that.

The hiss is due to the open filter transmitting more noise. The stock intake muffles it. Try starting the truck without the ait hat and open the throttles if you want to hear some hissing.

Here's how to clean up your engine bay and get lots of HISSSSSSing and it costs less than $20.

Umm, the AEM Brute Force is an open element intake system, just like the Volant, K&N, etc! One of the better ones according to some reviews.

Mine makes the hissing sound too, but, I does not have anything to do with the TB spacer. I did install my TB spacer, that comes with the Brute Force system, but, I really don't think it does anything all. I actually think the BF intake would fit better without the spacer! AEM defends the spacer by saying that they tested with and without it and found it did add a bit of power and driveability. I agree with their claim, only slightly, when they say "if it didn't improve performance, we wouldn't bother including it in the kit"!

The sound is from the intake and nothing to do with the spacer. If your truck doesn't make the hissing noise, you might have 'issues' with your truck that are beyond the intake (plenum leak, vacuum leak, etc.).

Good luck

You gotta love that hiss. :woot:

Tb

I had the Air raid spacer which I compared to 3 or 4 other TB spacers out there. They're all the same part with a different finish and sticker.... 3-5 ribs, anodized aluminum, 4 mounting holes. Anyways. I had an issue with my K&N rubbing the inside of my hood. The TB spacer combined height with the K&N FIPK made the K&N Rub. I pulled the TB spacer off. I DID notice my MPG is Down 2-3 MPG which I dont care about for local i have a short commute most importanly though, the truck is definately quicker off the line without the spacer installed. A friend of mine made a nice point to me. "If that part being as cheap as it is makes more HP and better gas milage why wouldnt they put it on stock" I think from a gas milage standpoint they rock. I pulled 18MPG in Cruse control @ 60mph for about 90 mins straight from my house to the moutains here. If you like being ahead of traffic and have a lead foot

As for your Hissing. in the air raid installation instructions they claim that if you hear a slight squealing or hissing noise that the part is working. The K&N's are a bit noisy too but I did notice a big difference in irritating noises when the TBS was installed. At least my radio muffled that noise out. :mullet:

I've emailed air raid & K&N about the clearence issues. Neither of which companies mentioned hood clearence which is quite important.

Had to roob goldberg a few things to get the hood closed with the TBS on the TB. You're better off takin it off :drive: :biggthump

re

The brute force isnt that the Intake that has the lexan window? with the filter mainly enclosed?

When you change to a high flow air filter, you will get hiss do to more high flow, loss of airbox(mainly) and sound travels easier through the better air filter. However, if you hear more of a hiss with a TB Spacer installed after testing the same set up without it, it is because the spacer has a smaller hole versus before and causeing more of a velocity hiss(sounds nice but loss of power!).
