Im guessing it is the rear end when i have the sliding window open i hear it, kinda like a whistle noise. Also when making a pretty sharp left hand turn it sounds like a grinding noise, Actually it sounds just like a plastic 20oz coke bottle rolling around back there in the bed, no shaking the truck or anything like that. However it does not do it when making a right hand turn. I drive a 2000 dakota rt, with almost 51k miles, I am not at a place where i can remove the cover to inspect it, but might go to a local shop instead. hipe this isnt pricy. Im praying its just clutches

When was the last time you changed the differential fluid?? Might be a good time to do it, also if youve got an LSD add some additive.

Differential bearings. Mine did the same exact thing. Cost me $65 to replace them.
Only turning left though, weird huh, How hard were they to replace and how do i tell if they need replacing and if the differential doesnt have to be removed was this easy to do yourself

Yep, left turns only. I had mine replaced when i got my LSD installed. You have take out the differential to replace it. I recommend a shop unless u know what your doing.

Oh yeah thats why i was asking if the differential was to be removed, cause i have no clue how to adjust the lash etc, but ive heard differential clutches can bevreplaced without removing the carrier is this true? Cause ive been reading and theres lots of reports online about 9.25 differential clutches failing kinda early. I have not abused the truck since ive had it, havent really turned the tires over on purpose. And the previous owner seemed very meticulous about his cars so i believe it was over all babied pretty well. This was after i bought it, i had a BMW tech look it over however the differential wasnt checked cause i couldnt find a gasket for it although they told me it didnt need one i decided not to, but everything else was normal. But thanks for your input on this. By the way was the bearings 65 dollars installed or just 65 plus installation, about how much was your labor costs

WHen i bought my truck it was making noise only turning a certain way ( dont remember), i changed the fluid in the rearend, and added LSD additive, no more noise!

u have to remove the differential to replace them.

u probably dont need to replace the gasket. My truck has 65,000 miles on it and it didnt need to be replaced. if u do want to replace it though, u can go to autozone. they usually have them in stock.

$65 not installed. i cant tell u how much the labor was because i had them replace the bearings when i had the LSD put in.

IF you have a gasket in there (which I doubt), you'll have to do something with it. Don't bother reusing a gasket.

In any case, I'm not aware of a gasket existing for our 9 1/4 rear axle (not sure if devin has the 9 1/4 or 8 1/4, but ALL R/T's have the 9 1/4 and LSD with 3.92 gears)...my father and I both have the same rear axle (his is a 95 Ram) and we've both always used RTV to seal the cover up because nobody has a gasket when we ask.

I've got 9 1/4 rear. u can reuse the same gasket, if u have one or dont have one u still need to seal it with RTV. All the auto parts stores around here have them in stock.

and actually i dont think its the diff. bearings because mine started making that god damn noise again. left and right turns, and going straight if i keep it under 15 mph.

Update on this, you try changine fluid first?

i doubt also there is a gasket, on my 8 1/4 there isnt a gasket for it, just used orange gasket maker, right before i hit 100k i changed the oil in the rear, oh what a great smell it was, i went back with lucas oil with was 2 1/2 bottles, which may be different for the 9 1/4 rearends
