I put the SSBC rear conversion kit (PN: A157) on my 02 Durango R/T and to be honest I wasn’t happy, it actually stopped better with the rear drums.
What I noticed is that, the old brake drums were pretty massive, and the new rotors were, for a SUV like the Durango pretty small, heck a Grand Cherokee has bigger rear rotors from the factory, and the pads that fit their calipers are from a Turbo T-Bird and they are pretty skimpy as well, then they sent me two left side calipers, which they swapped out for me no problem, then the replacement was another left side, they finally got me the correct “right” side, and they didn’t even ask the old ones back, so now I have two left sides that I don’t need, but they will work on either side but I am just real picky and like to have things correct. Last year I paid $750.00 for the kit and I just checked their website and they are going for $895.00 now. To me that’s not worth it unless down the road they beef up the rotors, calipers and the pads with their kits.
And when you replace the rotors you have to get them from SSBC (at least that’s what they told me) unless you work in a parts store and can take the time and match them up.
I would have been better off upgrading my front to an oversized rotor kit and keeping the rear drums on.
And for what the Durango R/T’s cost new they should have came from the factory with titanium rear rotors and gold plated pads !!!!
Then of course in 03 then they came with rear disc brakes from the factory.
But other than all that they are fine.
**Note** be careful on trying to swap brakes from another vehicle, I tried it, I used the factory rear brakes from a 03 Dakota, they would not work, the rotors hit the backing plates, which means obviously that there was a discrepancy with axle lenth, so if parts swaps are going to be done research first so not to waste your money, I took a gamble and lost.
Too bad they wouldnt work because the Dakotas rotors were quite a bit bigger than the rotors in the kit.
(but I ended up selling the parts on eBay and at least got my money back)
