From a 2000 Dakota extended cab V6, with around 55K miles on it. Since I bothered to take the pictures, I though I'd post them here:

I already ordered a new muffler, specifically Walker 40244, as wel as two 2.5" diameter clamps, but now that I am looking at the pictures, I think I need a new tailpipe as well (that is the tailpipe part that looks disconnected in the third picture, isn't it?) It's not my truck, so it's not like I can look at it during the week.

You were talking to me on a different thread. Thought id take our conversation here.

I have yet to get started on my exhaust due to some pressure sensor issues which will be resolved today hopefully!!

Anyway on to the exhaust , I was recommended towards a cat back package by a few people -Summit Racing Part Number:WLK-19327 $167.95 from Summit Racing + Tax. Free ground shipping.

Your walker parts look good to me and less than 167. I am unsure how you will know if it will be a perfect fit or not. The tailpipe you specified seems to be made for 01 or 02

Your tailpipe is the last section of your exhaust after the muffler. If you are in need of a muffler probably a good idea to get new tailpipe (my case anyway) .
I cant see your photos by the way. I dont know if its me or whats up with that.

Please let me know how it goes as I am curious

I decided to wait until I removed the old tailpipe before I bought a new one. Too many different ones pictured and I want to me more sure I am buying the right thing, since they often try to sell you the wrong part. I am not even 100% sure on the muffler, since the aftermarket one looks different and there are 2 that look almost the same. I just picked the one for the quad cab and hope it's right.

I won't know for sure if it's a right fit until I try to use it. It's not like I can buy it locally and return it if it doesn't fit since they don't stock these parts either. It's all ship to your home from their website anyway so I may as well mail order.

That and this truck does not get used on a regular basis (it's the GF's backup car or weekend car) so it can sit for a while if it needs to wait for parts.

I rechecked Walkers site and yes 55294 is their part number for a Club cab 2WD, and I also verified the difference between the Quad Cab and Club cab,

Quad cab = 4 doors
Club cab = 2 doors, but with 4 seats. <= this is what I am looking to get parts for.

Problem is I can not find an accurate picture of a Walker 55294. I see mostly stock photos or generic part numbers. Even Walker doesn't have a picture of it! Neither does eBay. NAPA has the best pics, but if I had to pick one based on their pics, a different one would be my pick.

I worked on this over the weekend I was able to remove the old tailpipe and the exhaust hangers on the muffler. However, I was unable to remove the muffler from the exhaust pipe on the front end of it. Removing the clamp was easy enough. Removing the muffler will not be. I want to reuse the old pipe that goes into the muffler. Hammering (even with sledgehammer) did not work. I ended up sparing in PB blaster and will try again next weekend. I am not completely sure what I am going to have to do to get the old one off. The muffler pipe slips over the pipe that I want to remove it from, but various internet searches suggest carefully damaging the outer pipe with a Dremel to cut lines it it. One person removed their exhaust system to where it bolts into something and the used a sledgehammer to remove their muffler. I am hoping to avoid that. I could not swing the sledgehammer that hard while under the truck, but it was still more than a regular hammer could do (I will try my 5lb hammer next weekend as well). Other suggested heating the pipe, which I may do as well. I would think that running the car might help, just the heat the pipe and maybe put some force on the muffler to push it out.

I have no idea if I am going to need an expander on that left over piece to put it back into the new muffler.

I do not have the correct replacement muffler either, since i need the on with the hanger on the front (difference between the one for the Club cab and the Quad cab). I did not take any pictures yet, but I was able to lay the old tailpipe and the Walker 55294 next to each other and it looks like it's close enough (with all the damage to the old tail pipe, it's hard to say). That is a really long tail pipe! The correct part number for the muffler probably is the Walker 40245, but I will know for sure this weekend. And yes I will take pictures.

I got it to disconnect, buy it took me around 4 hours on Sunday. I had to use an angle grinder to hack away at the old muffler, then when enough of it was removed I cut a slot in the pipe (internal to the muffler) and used a Dremel to cut a slot there the pipes overlapped and finally got the thing off. I have not installed any of the new parts, but I can say for sure that the Walker 40245 is definitely the right muffler and Walker 55294 is he right tailpipe. I took pictures of them side by side and will post those later with commentary.

OK, I've got the tailpipe and muffler off. I took some pocitres of the new Walker parts next to the old OE ones:

The new tailpipe looks longer. It probably is since the new muffler is a little shorter, but since the old one broke at the muffler, and then was bumping up against the old muffler, I can not tell how long the old tailpipe was. Muffler pics to follow.

Update:

I did get this finished a couple of weeks ago. I used Walker parts and they fit good and work just fine. Once I figured out the difference between the quad cap and the club cab, the rest wasn't too bad. I also use a sealant at the muffler joints. Truck exhaust is fine now.

Wow dont want to know how much you paid. Could of easily bought or had a better catback made.

I just did the muffler and tailpipe, 4 clamps (only needed 2), and 4 new rubber hangers for about $112 delivered from RockAuto. I also bought two Walker 41957 adapters which weren't necessary. Everything was the right size to slip fit onto the next part. If you can get custom catbacks made for less than that, please tell us where. According to the automd repair cost estimator, it said $574 and up.

While I was in there, I removed, scraped and repainted the muffler hanger brackets, repaired the heat shield and wire brushed, painted and rustproofed anything else that looked rusty.
