I know this topic has been beat to death but think I have a slightly different variation on the question.

I have a 2011 Dakota that of course has drum brakes. It has the 9.25 axle which from what I recall is a different width than the 1998-2004 models. I'm getting sick and damn tired of them vibrating. I can turn the drums and it comes back in a month or two. Replace the drums and it comes back in a month or two. Dealer has done quite a bit of work on the rear under warranty also and the issue always comes back. I want to try something different.

What I'm wondering are the axle ends the same on the 2003/2004 disc brake Dakota as the current gen? I'd like to just find a junkyard axle and steal the hardware.

I know those were six lug trucks and that was issue number two. I could either redrill the rotors or ponder stealing the rear disc setup off a Ram 1500 instead.

It is likely something you will have to determine yourself. The mounts for the brakes on the 03-04 rear axle is in a different location on the disc and drum rears, you can't just bolt the parts from a disc rear to the drum. Is the location on the 03-04 disc the same as a 11 drum????

That part is given. I'm more curious if the bolt pattern on the axle housing end is the same as a drum unit and/or the backspace from the face of the axle flange to the face of the axle tube is the same between years (regardless of overall housing width). If so it seems that everything would carry over and work with minimal mods.

Maybe I should just go grab a junkyard rear end with discs from a Ram and start measuring. If it doesn't work I guess I could just sell it to someone else and only be out about $100 or so.
