I bought a belltech lowering kit for my 89 v6 dakota. The supplied shocks have a non removable dust shield. The dust shield does not fit in the hole on the bottom of the control arm. The kits a rated for a shelby but I can't imagine the control arms being different.

I don't think there is any difference between the control arm on a Shelby. I own a Shelby and they didn't change all that much stuff. Ive bought regular shocks for mine and they fit. It may be a silly question but what are you calling the control arm?

I fixed the situation. I called belltech and they said that this happens sometimes and that it may be necessary to cut the sleeve off, so that's that I did.

I was referring the the lower control arm or "A" arm some people call it. Where the bottom of the shock bolts to.

I got the springs in and the new shocks. Next I'll be tackling the rear drop.

Here is a pic with the front lowered
