I'm looking at two dakotas. one is a 92 5.2 magnum auto 2wd that runs very well. the other is a 93 3.9 magnum auto 4x4 that needs a water pump(but runs nicely) and a t/case. these two trucks are a package deal.
After doing some searching and reading, I'm just a bit confused.
Can I swap just the engines? I've read about the injector wires and pcm. will the v6 auto trans handle the v8? Is this a bolt in swap regarding engine mounts and trans mating to engine? Oil pans? fuel pump?
Sorry if this has been beaten to death, just trying to clarify before i bite the bullet.

What are you looking to end up with, a V8 in the 4x4? You should be able to just bolt in the V8 and use the PCM for the V8. The trans will last, but not forever if you beat on it or try to tow much. Fuel pump should be good until it dies. The oil pan should work in the 4x4, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

it's basically a bolt in swap, but you will need the ECM & front engine harness for cleaner installation. Also, you will need to use V8 fan shroud....probably a few other items to change..like accelerator cable, and other items....the exhaust may be smaller for the V6 engine....so you may have to swap pipes as well. Look close at gas tanks...the 4x4 should have the 22 gallon tank, usually standard on 4x4's.....it will fit right in where the smaller 17 gallon tanks are
