Hey everyone :help: I have had a problem with my shift points at WOT for the last few weeks. The main problem is the one-two upstift the truck will accelerate just fine but I have to feather the throttle if I want it to shift. The thing that I am worried about is I still have the stock valve train and I know the valves float at 5400rpm well I am constintaly comming damn close to that all the time and I dont want to throw a keeper and swallow a valve. So I need to know if it is the Throttle valve pressure or the govenor pressure is messed up and how to go about fixing it. I had the trans rebuilt a year ago and they said that they upped the line pressure a little well I thought that it was a little too high because I was having similar problems as stated above so I brought it back to them and they ran some tests and told me that it was a computer problem and that they lowered the line pressure by 5psi well since then I have gotten a mopar performance computer and the problem seems to be worse. I basically just need to know how to properly adjust the TV cable...

Thanks in advance
please :help:

I'm sure you know where the Tv cable adjustment is, but I'll explain it anyway. On the passenger side near the rear of the engine bay and next to the Throttle Body. The houseing comes up from by the firewall into a small black end with a tan colored clip on it, then the cable ataches to the throttle assembly.

To adjust it, mark a line on the cable houing at the back of the black plug. Now carefully remove the tan clip by prying it off gently with a small screwdriver. Now you can move the cable housing in and out. If it's not shifting without letting off the gas then you want to move the cable towards the front of the engine bay. This will lessen the pressure by not opening the valve as much. You dont need to move it much, maybe just an 1/8 of an inch. Once you move it, replace the clip and take it for a test drive. You may need to move it many time to get it where you want.

The line you drew on the housing is to replace it to its original location and give you a guide as to how far you've moved it.

Hope this helps.

alright, well actually, I screwed my TV cable up big time for reasons we'll just leave undisclosed...basically my own stupidity. But anyhow, I ended up taking it to a dealership because I couldn't get the damn thing back in the right place and everything was screwed up. And the guy said, to get it back to the "original" position all you do:

with the engine off (obviously) and the TV cable unclamped and free moving, push the accelerator to the ground. Now here, you'll need a second person. When that pedal is on the ground, clamp the TV cable back into place that that SHOULD be the stock location. Take it for a test drive and check it out.

I honestly don't know if the guy was BSing or not cause I honestly hate that dealership, but I was lost for ideas. So at worst, give it a shot and take it for a test spin, and see if it works. Let me know how it turns out.

Thats pretty much right on. A good way to make sure you got it right is to (under the hood) move the trottle assembly. If there is any slack on the TV cable when you move the throttle, its a little too loose. It should be tight enough that it moves simultaniously with the thottle, but not so tight that it doesn't let it all the way back when at idle.

Bringing this back from the past. My 02 5.9 is having the shift issue, but I don't have any tan clip holding the cable that comes up from the trans. In fact, I don't see any way to adjust the cable at the tb mount.

Anyone have any ideas aside from a trip to the dealer?

Here's a How-to: http://www.v8performance.com/tipsandtricks.htm#TVCable ...there a better one out there somewhere, just can't find it right now! Keep in mind, I think this only works for the older Magnum's (example: 5.9, 5.2, etc...)!

my shifting is like that too!
i think thats my problem.
i really have to feather the gas or else in 1st gear it will go into high rpms
same goes with second gear
this all happen a night ago

Don't you just hate it when people post a problem and then never come back with a follow up?

I have a similiar problem. No matter how much gas i give my truck, it seems to shift at 3500 RPM, even with the pedal to the floor. It also dosent downshift going up a hill, unless you really get on it. Would i just adjust the cable opposite as specified abovt to get it to shift higher.

Not sure if that's your problem, but it wouldn't hurt to try! Just do little adjustments and go for a test drive!!

I adjusted mine at first towards the grille b/c i thought my line was too tight, but it made it worse. i adjusted it back the best i can and it seems to shift real hard on 2500-3000 rpm. It still didnt fix the wot. All i want now is to get it back to "stock" original form. Does flooring it while uncliped work?? any ideas?? thanks

I did the flooring method and on a quick drive while the engine was cold it seemed to shift fine. its now raining, so when it stops ill have to drive till the engine warms up and give it some gas and see how it shifts. update to come.

I just got done playing with the TV cable on my truck, but the shifts are still a little off. at WOT, the 1-2 upshift is at 5100 RPM, but 2-3 is at about 4300 and the 3-4 shifts way to early, at about 3500 RPM. If this isnt normal, what else should I look into?

which side did you adjust? ive only touched my tb side and im sick of this. i just want the stock setting back. i loved all of the torque before i messed with this. The flooring method worked a little i guess. It was smoother shifting but not all the way back to normal. the truck feels slower now:rant:. im about ready to take it to dodge and tell them to put it back to normal.

again, does anyone know how to make it stock??? Thanks for any info.

I just tweeked the tb side of the cable, it's eaiser to get to. I only pulled it out maybe 1/8" to get the 1-2 shift right. At first I pulled it out a little too far, it would do the 1-2 shift at about 5300 RPM, but about a second into 2nd, it would downshift into first again. Very bad.

I think you pulled it way to far, it only needs a very small adjustment. im just gonna live with the 1-2 shift but i still want it back to stock.
