Does anyone have the catalytic converter taken off of their Durango R/T? I'm thinking about doing it but would like to know if anybody that did it thinks its worth doing. Right now I only have a Super 40 series flowmaster on mine but would like more sound out of it.

Well taking the cat off will make it a little louder, but I bet nothing too drastic. Why not just go with an original 2 chamber Flow 40 instead of the Super.

I did my muffler research and according to flowmaster, the super 40 series is just as loud as the original on the outside just muffled more for the inside of the car.

Loosing the cats will make it louder...I'm not sure how much tho....

You can also, lose your tail pipe and put on a turndown right after the muffler. That will make it quite a bit louder, the sound will bounce off the ground and sounds louder.

losing the cats will be louder. you'll deff notice at idle too. but...i know in fl it is illegal to modify or remove a cat from a vehicle originally equiped with one. so if that is no prob to you, go for it, and if you want loud, ditch the flowmaster and get a bullet muffler.

not on a 360, but on my 239, it didnt really get much louder, just the sound changed a lot. Its definitely less muffled though,...hard to explain...Even with full exhaust, just with my glasspack in place of the stock muffler, my truck was loud. Now, with about 2ft of pipe and a glasspack...WHAT!?!? I CANT HEAR U!! HELLO?!?!

Smog laws are really kiy in whether to do it or not. IF you know someone who can smog your vehicle, that doesn't care I wouldnt worry about it. You could always go high-flow cat and no muffler. I personally like and use Magnaflows, soemthing to think about.

I'll need to go for the emission test within a couple of months. The next test after that is in 2 years. I was thinking about getting rid of the cats after the test but just wanted to know if it's worth it.

If you kept the cats in place and just knocked the catalyst out wouldn't it still perform and sound great? Besides, in the case of an inspection, the cats would be "in place", just no internal restriction. However, you would have to get an O2 simulator to prevent from throwing codes.
