I'm doing the auto to 5spd swap! I have both trucks 1 is 95 ext cab v-8 5spd and mine is a 96 ext cab v-8 auto... swap is gonna be for me to do.. I have the stuff almost out of the 95 i'll post pic's when I can. friends say I'm crazy but I love 5spds much better so I'm doing it lol.:drive:

Bad donor truck choice, the computer system in the 95 is obd1 while the 96 is obd2.
Other than that, it isn't bad. I've done a couple.

I've got all the stuff out of the parts truck. Now to start getting the auto crap out of mine now. I had to get a 96 spd pcm from my auto wreckers. but everything esle should be ok. Can't wait to start banging gears again. I'm looking for a hurst short through shifter. If anyone has one please PM me what you want for it! Thanks pic's to follow.

I've always used a cheap, stock clutch with a new pressure plate at the same time. My 2001 has 226k on the original clutch.

from the dealer or just a replacement oem style from a parts store?
I'm looking at one from rockauto its a rinopak it comes with everything but flywheel. It says it above oem spec. fair price to thx for the reply

I'm looking into buying myself a 96 Dakota with a 360 and 46RE swap but the overdrive isn't hooked up in it. Wondering if it'd be easier to try and wire that in or just convert it to an NV3500. Keeping an eye on this thread.

I love the 5spd trucks. I sold my red 96 5spd reg cab short box. and missed it so I found another one ext cab auto because I could'nt find a 5spd one so I'm doing it myself it's a pretty easy swap when you have a part's truck. good luck with what ever you do cheer's.

I'm haveing a bit of trouble with the pilot bearing. I've already recked one so is there anyone that has had this issue? any help would be great its the only thing stopping me from getting this done! I'm stupped here..

what problem are you having with it? Is it to big to go into crank?

I have had that problem before on my 66 Charger..the automatic cranks were not "drill finished" for the manual trans pilot bearing...so I had to get the "adapted to fit" bushing for my auto crank

Ya it seems to big! but it looks the same as the donor 5psd trucks crank tho.

I converted an auto magnum to 5-speed you need the pilot bearing with sleeve goes right in or it did for me with no problem. you may have some rust build up in the hole on the crank or something since the hole hasn't been used for anything in the last 20 some odd years.
