I have a 94 reg cab V6 auto shortbed Dakota
It has 111K miles. runs OK for what it is I am driving the crap out of it.
just rebuilt the trans, replaced the timing chain, intake plenum gasket waterpump etc since buying it at just over 100K miles.
My son has a friend who rolled a 95 Dakota that had a 318 and 5 speed in it, her Dad saved the motor and trans with the wiring and everything.... I can very possibly wind up with the 318/5 spd very cheaply;
I do prefer a stick vs an auto any day of the week.
They saved the trans for possible retrofit into a 66 coronet that they have since decided to leave an automatic.
I am wondering if driven sensibly (which will be hard with 2 more cylinders and a stick!) how thirsty my Dakota will become as compared to present;
I sold off a 80s 3/4 ton Dodge and switched to this Dakota to save a little gas about 6 months ago. Im not saving as much as I had hoped to. Some, though.
I also know of a same gen Clubcab with unknown powertrain and possible issues,seeing as how it has not moved an inch in at least a year..... when I bought my current 94 I was really after a clubcab anyways.... I am wanting to go knock on the door where the CC sits and see what may be wrong with it and if it can be bought.
Assuming that this 318 and 5 speed do end up in my garage; and the CC can be bought reasonably/ body looks good from the road, not wrecked, anyway
should I;
swap the V8 and 5 speed into my current truck?
Sell my current truck and put the V8 and 5 speed into the CC?
keep what I have, as is and forget about a V8? seeing as how I finally have it all debugged,and all the years of neglected maintenance caught up on my current truck? (belts hoses complete tunup intake gaskets etc)
Since getting my current Dakota,I have also acquired a popup camper... man that V8 and stick would be nice for going camping with.....
I have had many trucks over the years every single one a Dodge.
my last Dakota was a 90 longbed 2WD with a 6 cyl/A/T.... I do miss both my 3/4 ton I last owned,and the longbed that my 1st Dakota had....
the current one even though a shortbed does serve about 90% of my true truck "needs" though like Tim Taylor I always want more power.....
