Just had all 4 ball joints replaced yesterday on my 02 dakota quad cab 4x4. It cut out a TON of squeaking and noise but there is still a slight squeak coming from up front when I roll over a speed bump. Any ideas? I'm tired of playing catch up with this truck.

My guess would be the control arm or sway bar bushings. The upper control arm bushings are close to the manifolds and the heat rots them after a while
Agreed, I just started hunting down squeaks in my front end. I have so many that I crawled up under it with a crow bar and just started wiggling suspension parts. When I found one, I jotted down the part on my notepad, and moved on to the next. By the time I get done, I should have a completely new front end :woot:

Now, finding replacement bushing "kits" is another hassle. It appears they are getting selfish with their 2001 suspension kits. :funny:

Energy Suspension makes a complete bushing kit for our trucks.. it's like 150 bucks.
I am looking in the wrong places. Are these kits, that you are talking about, polyurethane or graphite?

The pieces I am looking for are (2001 Dodge Dakota 2WD Automatic Quad Cab):

- upper/lower control arms (inner & outer)
- front sway bar
- stabilizer end link bushings
- upper/lower control arm bump stops
- coil spring isolator rings (upper)

I haven't even started looking for rear parts :-(

Haynes manual is a fast solution, but for everything from the wiring schematics down to the weld joints, you will want to have a factory service manual.

I found mine on ebay, and got all five books for $80 a couple of years ago. You have to do some searching, as you want to make sure the factory service manuals are not torn up and abused.

But, if you are in a pinch, then chilton or haynes is your best bet.

Here is a set that I found on eBay, after a quick search: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-DODGE-...686881907?pt=Motors_Manuals_Literature&vxp=mtr&hash=item4cfe796073#ht_746wt_906

you can also find PDF's of the fsm from time to time. I have one for an 01 which should be similar enough to your 02. PM me your email address and I will send it to you tonight.

As for difficulty of replacing the bushings... it's not a complicated job, but it does kind of suck. You could probably take your tire off and visually figure out how to do it. Those fasteners just see a lot of water and the ball joints are compression fittings, so they are designed to get tighter with time. If you don't have air tools, it can be a pain in the ass.
