Hi its me again ... anybody got any good reviews for a decent Y-pipe. I keep looking at my 'rango's Y, and it kinda reminds me of a honda. Poor ol' 5.9 4wd.

:bye:

:bye:

I made my own from 2.25 off the headers mandral bent pipe to a 2.25x3" Y from flowmaster. I think it cost me about 100 bucks plus time to cut and weld it up. Used a magnaflow spun highflow cat. Not recommended. I have to cut the magnaflow cat out and put the new modded stock cat back in. The cat is making the rear o2 freakout and it throws the p420 code all the time. I went with JBA headers and had to grind on the ball part of the flange to open it up to 2.25. Because it is 2". all and all I like it. Other than the sound I don't think it did to much as for mileage or power. I don't drive it a whole lot. It's the wifes daily driver. I just ask How is the Durango running.
I ran everything in the stock local and it is tight.GL

I've got a brand new flowmaster 'Y' pipe if your interested and a half a flowmaster
'Y' pipe welded on to MP header collector tubes that I've had for a while now. I bought them of another board years ago but did not have the time to make them fit so I just gave up. PM me for pics if interested. P/N Y214300A

After the muffler? Like a dump before the axle. That is doable. But you want to talk about freaking loud. My D has a flowmaster 40 on it and I had to add a res. to lose the drone and it is still loud. The wife likes it though...

I hate loud exhausts, im talking about the pipe that goes down after exhaust manifolds/headers; any decent ones lately? Im gonna run a single 2.5 three chamber Magnaflow, don't want loud Foulmasters, everyone has them. Pretty boring if everyone has them... IMHO

JBA use to make a Y from the manifolds down. But if you want 2.5 you will probably have to have it custom made. I made my own because the shops around here want WAY to much to make it.
Not all Flowmasters are loud BTW. I have a Magnaflow on my Dakota and think that it's junk and overpriced for what you get. A muffler that sounds good new and when the packing burns out sounds like crap. But, That is MHO.
I think that if you have a custom Y made from the manifolds to the cat go 2.25 to 2.5 then 2.5 all the way out. GL

Thats precisely what i was thinkin :banana2: so  to the magnaflow? Which one do you have? Can you post a VID?

I would like to upgrade my Y-pipe as well. Is there a part number for the Magnaflow Y?
I've been checking summit racing but they don't list anything for the Dakota.

2.25" or 2.5" would be a good size to run. I just want them to have the correct flanges to mount up to the manifolds/headers.

I'm looking around, too... Goto Magnaflow's website and look up the direct-fit cat for your truck. I choose the direct-fit OEM grade, as it has the whole Y-pipe and flanges to bolt up to your headers/manifolds. Copy the part number, and plug that number in on performanceparts.com

BigJay55 - i found the magna flow one, but they're just the stock diameter. To me i persoanly don't think it will do anything to help flow and with the money spend i can do somethign else.

I'd just get two tubes with the flanges at 2.25" (the Headers are 2" ball but grinded back a bit makes 2.25") bolt them onto header/manifold havepick up some more either 2.25" or 2.5" and start making one. If you have piece's that are cut in angles you can pretty much run style you want. depends if you have a welder and a weekend. Personaly i'd remove the cats and basicly have a upgraded 2.25 that goes into 2.5" pipe then run them booth along the stock exhaust location and stagger your mufflers so they booth fit in or have a 2 into 1 Muffler and do a simple side exit before the tire and weld on a tip.

Its a bit hard if you don't have a hoist or stands. I've put dual exhaust on a friends 4x4 truck with pipes from the junk yard...don't ask hes not my friend and hes a goof but either way i made duals on my back in feb snow/cold with a zip cutter, Mig welder, propane torch and a long solid pipe to add or move some angles. When i get around to it i'll post pictures.

Be careful with a 4.7 and going too big on pipe diameter. I've had it drilled into me by countless 4.7 owners that dual 2.5"s are too much for this engine, unless you're running boost. Yes, you will have gains, but at this point, from what I've been told (over and over and over and over... Yes, I'm stubborn :funny:) that you will actually lose torque going that big, with minimal gains in HP over a smaller system. The Magnaflow y-cat is stock diameter, yes, but it is also mandrel bent, which will increase flow, and the cat itself flows better than stock. Also can be a bolt-in mod, complete with bungs for the O2 sensors. Personally, I'm looking at shorties, the Magnaflow Y-cat and then custom 2.25" duals/Flowmasters after the cat.

I don't have a 4.7L...Have a 5.9L V8. I can get 2.25" pipe for the same price as 2". I have 2.5" duals on my 360LA and it makes a world of difference. You can pick up Mandrel bent tubes in 180* bends. You just look at your stock set up, double check your angles at the Y and then you know how many special pieces to order. I'm going to spend with mufflers maybe 250$ tops maybe more if i buy a fancy tip.

Ok, a 360 has 73 more cubes, makes a world of difference. For us 4.7 guys, including the OP, 2.5" duals is too much!
