Hi guy's i was wondering if anyone here has recovered there door panel inserts, and how did you do it . i took one off and am trying to find the best way to make it stick and stay on tight. do you use glue or staples.

if you can tell me step by step on how to do it ,it sure would help out alot. i am having alot of trouble with the corners gotta be a good way to cut or fold them over.

anyway any advice will help me out big time

On the 97-00 interior, you can just tuck the fabric into the sides of the door panels and it'll stay. I'm not sure how it works on the 2001+ interiors, but there are plenty of glues out there to make it stick. Make sure to use the glue on both sides and let it get tacky before applying the fabric.

In my personal opinion, nothing beats reupolstering the door panel insert completely. This is what I did....

-Removed the door panel
-Used a razor blade to slice off the melted tabs leaving the hollowed posts intact
-Removed the fabric (which is glued and stapled on) and then removed ALL the foam getting the panel back to nothing but a piece of black ABS plastic
-Cut out some vinyl with a leather grain and embroidered my truck's logo on there
-Used spray glue and glued 1/4" foam to the vinyl
-Reupholstered the panels with spray glue and staples on the back
-Reattached the panel with screws and fender washers

If you are uncomfortable with doing this yourself, please contact me via PM or email darren@madrt.com In addition to reupholstering visors, I'm going to start offering door panels reupholstered as well with embroidered logos.

Here's the end results, better than factory! :woot:

WoW that looks totally AWESOME!!! :mullet: you sure did great work on those :clap2:

Here is a couple pics of mine. Did mine like Darren, except for the embroidering I opted for old school enblems.
Hey Darren pm me the cost to make me 2 bolster covers, I'll install them myself. I want them to read: R/T DAKOTA , thread to be a dark silver/gray.Useing the font that matches the original exterior door stickers.

Hey 00RedRT

Did you do your roof to match? I was thinking about swinging by JoAnn Fabrics tomorrow. Will maybe get enough to do both, depending on the cost. Did you just buy a yard of regular vinyl or was it a special order thing?

I did reupholster the headliner, but I used actual headliner cloth material with a foam backing similar to OEM just a matching Agate color.

I matched my headliner up with my door panels, also did my rear seats and center console.

Not exactly i replaced mine with an older panel when my handle ripped off. Everything lines up except the screws on the bottom, i believe its the one facing forward... Thought i might add that... :woot:

I meant to say the shape of the door panel insert. But good to know about the screws on the bottom.

hay adam what kinda material is that you used? Ive been wonting to so that to mine for awhile now im sure i can do the door panels but the roof and visors im not to sure about. Also if i did it were can i get some paint my overhead console and the brackets for the visors to match i think mine is Agate if thats the darker color or do you guys think it would look good to paint that stuff gloss black to match the paint?
