Its all a matter of taste. Im going to assume you have the typical crack in your wood grain piece where it passes over the steering column, if thats the case, fuck around with it all you want, and then when you decide what you really like, buy a new one and paint it to your liking.

Thanks emjohn4. And no. It actually isnt cracked. I painted it as I painted the wood grain. Heres some more before and after pics. And do you think that battery is that old? It always starts. Ive never had a problem of that battery going bad. Ive even left the battery on to listen to the radio and 3 hours later go and start the truck like it was new :)

Heres the before

Now I broke the cable that tells you what gear your in but if you cant tell what gear your in just by feeling it, you dont need to be driving :)

If the battery is still working fine, dont worry about it. I had an 8 year old battery in my last car(warranty sticker on it said date of install) and it worked fine every time i turned it on, even sometimes listening to the radio with it off for about 20 minutes. My brother in law bought a brand new explorer in '00 and had the same battery in it when he traded it in last year. If its still holding its charge then dont worry about it.

I spent 2 dollars on the silver paint and maybe a max of 15 mins taking it part. Now look at yours and look at mine. Cant really tell a whole lot of difference between the 2. Im a disabled vet. i dont have alot of money to buy all these things that i would like to do to my DAK so i make it all up as I go along :)

Yea. I never thought about painting the gauge surroundings either til someone mentioned it. I was gonna paint the wood grain trim. Looks pretty snazzy tho
if ya don't like the woodgrain trim...just plain black was offered as standard dash trim....find one of those (actually 2 pieces) and paint it..the woodgrain trim is hard to find in good condition

Already painted them. Ill go and look at the parts truck tomorrow and see if it has wood grain in it. But every 2nd gen DAK ive seen, all of them had the wood grain so i thought that they came standard in them
nope...the woodgrain was an option...but it was standard in the SLT trucks

chrome front grille was option as well from what I remember

my mirrors & bumpers were faded black, as were my outside mirrors...I painted them body color...my front grille was already body color from the factory....looking at my truck now...about the only chrome I got on it are the stock 96 wheels
