Saturday I took off on a short road trip to Crosby, ND in my Durango. I had the cruise control set at 55 mph and was easing down a slightly downhill stretch of road when the tranny abrubtly downshifted to third gear for about two seconds, an then back into OD. The vehicle ran flawlessly on the rest of the drive to Crosby.

After doing what I needed to do, I go to head back home, and am slowly coasting to a stop sign (maybe 15 mph), when I feel the tranny slam from second back to first, and then back to second again. As with the first time, the vehicle ran perfectly the rest of the way home. Anyone with any ideas as to what is trying to crop up? I now have a bit over 160k on the truck.

I noticed this last friday.

I was rolling through a stop light (my turn to go, so I wasn't going fast) and the stoplight is setup where the direction I was going, east/west, is up on a hill, and north/south is like a valley, so you can't go blowing through the intersection otherwise you jack your shit up.

Anyway, on the way down this short, steel little hill (about 15' long hill) and I hit the flat portion, my truck also kicked down a gear real quick then back up to normal. At first I thought someone had rear-ended me.

Truck ran fine all the way home, and again fine all the way to work today..

Thanx for the suggestion. I will check out the sensor. Knock on wood, the quirk has not yet showed back up again. I hope to be moving into my new house soon, and don't need the Durango to pick now to have a new problem.
