.....and most likely a .22.....
I can vouch for the Browning Buckmark. It has the BEST trigger of any out-of-the box .22 handgun. And is as durable as an AK47....I have over 40k rounds through mine and it still shoots straight and functions like it did the day I brought it home.

The Ruger Mk2/3 may have a better aftermarket supply, but they have sloppy triggers and a weird grip angle you will never get used to.

The Beretta Neos has a decent trigger, it's crisp...but kind of heavy for a "target" pistol. It's kind of picky about what you feed it, it doesn't like lead-nosed surplus ammo, or the wax-coated CCI stinger ammo. But the gun is ugly and looks like it was taken from a futuristic sci-fi movie.

The Heritage Rough Rider is an old school SA revolver, it only holds six rounds and take about five minutes to reload. But it's as reliable as any gun can be, and shoots very straight...even on the fixed sight models. It's also cheap and can be had for $150 if you look hard enough.

I can go on for days about .22 handguns....

Ok...go on for a day on a walther p-22......that's the first handgun I picked up that felt "right"....you know what I mean....picked it up and pointed loosely at a target, checked the sights and it was level and dead center.......the rugers were about 15degrees high for my grip....

If I got one, it would be the target one with the longer barrel and all that......

My bro wants a Neos, but I hate how they look.....they look worse than a ruger...which looks like its outta a 70s sci fi.....neos is a modern sci fi...LOL.

Oh...I meant to say that's the first .22 that felt right.....first handgun that felt right is my buddies match glock 17.....

Diddo on that new Walther P-22. It's a better idea to get the one without the extended barrel, and buy the extended barrel after words. This is because its roughly the same cost, but then you have the shorter barrel too.

I'm more of a revolver guy myself, I love the look, the feel, everything. Ive got a Colt border patrol 4" barrel in .357 Mag. and I love it.

What I would like to get next is either a .44 mag, or a .454 Casull.

-With the .44 mag in mind, I would definitely go with a Colt Anaconda if I could find one, or one of Smith & Wesson's new stealth hunters.

-In .454 Casull, a Ruger Super Red-Hawk, or Taurus Raging Bull in black with 8-3/8" barrel. I was slightly surprised to find S&W didn't chamber anything in .454.

Why would I even want the short barrel? All its for is target, so there's no need to have a snubby that's easier to conceal......

And I am used to shooting long barrels......I am an avid paintballer, and all my barrels are 14-16" on all my markers..........so a 5.5" (or whatevr the long one is) isn't that long for me.....also, my shotty is a 28" barrel......(29 with the extended chokes, and 30 with the xx full turkey choke......)

Paint-ball is a very poor comparison for anything than reactions in a combat or shooting situation.

Having the extra short barrel always leaves you the option, and extra value for resale.

The option for what? To illegally conceal it? It is illegal to carry a "concealed firearm" in IL. And there is no conceal carry permit valid in IL. Unless its a law enforcement badge............and I don't plan on getting one of those........

I also don't ever plan on selling any of my guns......only thing that would make me sell is if it wasn't up to my par.........

An inch or so worth of extra barrel isn't going to make a difference accuracy wise. Side-by-side you wont notice a difference in the way they shoot. You will however notice the difference in the sight radius. The further apart the sights are, the thinner the front sight blade will appear, and allow one to train that front sight more precisely on the target. And the larger "light bars" between the rear sight posts and front blade will allow you to line up the sights quicker.

The increase of front end weight also helps with recoil, but on a .22 that isn't going to be a problem. The slight increase in muzzle velocity in a handgun is barely even worth bringing up.

Now, specifically about the P22....since you said it fits your hand well, I wont mention how small it is. The good thing about it is there is an external hammer, which means you have the option to bypass the HEAVY double action trigger. Which brings up my only bitch about Walthers....they have been a combat weapon since day one with reliability and function in mind. And while their hard hitting hammers do provide utter reliability, that also creates a heavy and gritty trigger. If I remember right, one of the gun magazines tested the trigger the break at 15lbs DA and 6lbs SA.

So if you can get past the trigger, and focus on Walther's performance history and track record. You will have a solid shooter that goes boom every time you need it to.

I didn't say anything about concealed carry, and even if you don't plan on resale, you would always have an extra barrel, thats all I was trying to say.

Longslide also pointed out some simple facts to consider before making your decision.

As far as I have seen, the trigger is around 12da and about 5 sa, but regardless..........LOL

And its kinda odd that that small of a pistol fits my hands.....I have rather large hands.........go figure......

And I guess the longer barrel is an asthetic plus to me......I don't care much for the look of a "short" semi pistol.......I like 'em considerably longer than they are tall....LOL I guess it makes it look less like a toy........

The P22 is a good gun.

I shoot my short barrel P22 better than my Ruger MkIII 22/45 with a 5.5" barrel fwiw...

Here's most of my collection.

Olympic Arms K16, 16" bull barrel and free floating fore end. I need an RRA trigger, Magpul MOE grip and an ACE skeleton stock.
Saiga 12 converted by me.
EAA Witness Elite Match 10mm, also have a .40 barrel for it.
XD subcompact .40 in it's everyday carry holster.
And my Savage .17HMR, currently in need of a scope.

I haven't gone hunting in several years now but I still try to get out to the local ranges or the woods when I'm able. Mostly I shoot my carry guns to stay in practice: 1911s (.45acp) and j-frames (.38spl) are my favorites.

Current carry is a lightly modified SA Mil-spec. Eagerly anticipating getting my S&W 640 (.357mag) paid off and run through testing so I can carry it.

Wow I forgot about this thread... I have been gone WAY too long. Well I have been doing much more shooting since I started this. I made some bullet testing videos on youtube. If you watch them ignore the sound of my voice, I'm using a bad camera. Acoount name oddcarl1.

Last I checked it was still fire season...

IMHO they are looking for excuses to permanently close the place...its only a matter of time
yep, still fucking closed, I just called the pricks. Here is their # 760 788 0250. I has been a wet winter out here and is raining as we speak but still closed due to "public safety" concerns.

I recently picked up a 1942 Lee-Enfield No 4, Mk1...very fun and addicting gun to own. 150 grains barely kick at all...180's on the other hand kick like a mule!

I'm slowly building a collection, but I can't have handguns or anything "restricted"...some days I wish I was an American...or just have the right to bear arms.
