i got the 44 from a 78ish bronco, that has had the knuckle swapped of to a chevy style so that its 8 lug, i would have done a 60 in the front also but it just extra weight in the front that i didnt wont, mayb in the future ill swap it out to a d60 but im not sure if i will or not. im not a big fan of of BL cause all they really do if you wana go wheelin is make you more top heavy while leaving the rest of the truck down low, and you wont realy gain groung clearnce since the bottom of your fram is still at the same height, and ya its still guna ride like is was stock since all you did was move the body up, you didnt change anything in the suspension

so the 44 has the knuckels for the front end... and true bout your frame being the same height but you can fit slightly larger tires on it therefor raising your frame and axle aswell so you get a inch or two out of the deal we went from stock what 255s to 285s with a 3" BL on our Dako

thats just it if i wanted to do 4wheel steer then it would have to be hydrlic steering, you couldnt really put a rack n pinion in the rear since you would have almost no way to turn the gear to turn the tires, with hydralic you just have to hook it up to a hand steer like they do in the monster trucks

i was thinking somehow run your Power steering lines to it and when you turned your front end have it hooked up oppisite and the force of the fluid would turn it without having to have the gear hooked to a gear box wouldnt it

damn i was close lol what did the axles come from and y not use the same in the front as the rear no one has ever told me that is it just the 44 has the knuckels or th 60 which ever or what and y not a fan of BLs cheap give extra clearence between underbody and trans and transfur and mine still rides like stock
SPC, you need to hop on pirate4x4 and just browse for a few hours.

Dana 44 is a half ton axle, Dana 60 is a 3/4 ton axle in a rear application, Dana 60 is a 3/4-1ton in a front axle application. Newer Diesels run a Dana 70 and duallys usually go to Dana 80.

44s are ok if you don't beat your rig and run 35s, 37s are pushing it because of the weight of the rotating mass (tires).

60s are more common in wheelin builds for their availability of axles and parts but are double the cost of 44s usaully

o lol i wanna go get my ASEs so its nice to learn this stuff pluss i love havin big trucks like to get my ram and dako higher and ive heard of the dana 44s and 60s and all that jus noone has ever broke it down for me thanks

I am waiting for a buddy to wire 220v in my garage and I need to find a cheap daily driver while she gets chopped up. Been collecting parts for 2 years now. I only really need two solid days to get the old susp out and get the new suspension in to get her back on all fours.:blahblah::blahblah:
