Thanks that is an awesome dakota, Im jelouse haha. I am always so back and forth on IFS vs Straight axle because I like the look and strength of a straight axle but Im not a big fan of the tires sticking out so far or the cost of narrowing axles front and rear and I like the IFS because everything with the lift is already figured out and just a put it in thing plus the width remains the same but its not as nice looking and no were near as strong? As of late though Im leaning towards the IFS because if I was to do a straight axle it would purely be for looks because the truck never goes offroad and thats alot of money and work to have somthing just for looks. Yet I am always willing to have someone change my mind on what would be better for my pickup.

I dont know lol offroading and stuff used to interest me and I wanted to do some crazy shit to the dakota, but as of late being more show oriented and haveing a clean truck have interested me more.

Im back and forth on whether or not I wanna SAS the dak I dont offroad it alot like I said but a straight axle is pretty awesome.

I would think that if your not planing on off roading it then sas is a waste of your money. they make the truck better for off roading

yeah, Im probably just gonna keep my IFS and just upgrade to an R/T rear end.

I like the 9 1/4 because its security if I ever do go with a huge IFS lift: see *safe tire size to run* thread. The rear end in my truck needs a complete rebuild and I mean pull LSD, ring and pinion, .ect and buy everything so if I have to do all that to it why not upgrade to a bigger rear end? Plus hopefully when I drop the transmission to put in my new clutch Im hoping to put in a bigger 5.9l providing I find or reprogram an ecm and that wont remain stock. So a bigger rear end is basicly just security and peace of mind that it shouldnt break on me.

I don't know my reasoning is that it needs to be replaced anyways so if I can why not? I mean even if I don't need it it's security that it won't break.

Because you're spending money on upgrading something that, of all odds, you will never break. You won't be putting your truck on rocks like some of us have, and you won't be putting a considerable amount of power to it like some of us here, so I just don't see why you think you'll need it. If you were putting down 400-500 HP and actually wheeled the truck, then I would suggest going for a stronger axle, but you don't seem to be headed in either of those directions, so "upgrading" seems completely pointless.

Take my opinion how you want, but I'm just trying to help you save time and money. If you still ignore my advice and want to do it, then go for it.

yea take the money you'll save on not needing that and put it towards the lift, wheels, tires, headlamps, hoods, intakes, gears, lockers. there is a ton of stuff the you NEED. if you finish all that and still want it then do it.

I understand exactly what everyone here is saying dont get me wrong its just the LSD, gears, .ect all have to be replaced in the rear end of my truck anyways but if you guys hounestly think I shouldnt drop a 9 1/4 in and do to it what Im gonna do to my stock rear end anyways then Ill take youre word for it lol. I do plan on running some big power in my truck but I wont be offroading it so I guess it isnt really important to go bigger I just figured I would upgrade.
