Blue white is the console switched 12 volt.
Blue with black and purple with green are temp sensor + and neg
the black and tan is just console ground.

Switched it and wired it to the harness and still doesn't turn on :/ I had my ear up to the computer and seems like its taking a huming sound. So could the screen just be broke?
Mash the mode or step button. there is a function that has the screen blank and you hear humming.
Maybe that will work. If not I will go out later on and check my computer out.

Yeah, only has 6 wires. The guy I bought it off of said it came out of a durango and would work fine on my 99 dakota.
It's still strange. The wiring appears to be off, according to what you have described and according to that picture, and it's still missing a wire. I pulled my overhead console to look at it, and there were 7 wires going into my trip computer.

Strictly speaking, you do not need that overhead wiring connector. It's possible to run the trip computer without it. But the wiring needs to be correctly hooked up in order to do so.

This thread only shows 6 wires as well: I wonder how all these people got theirs to work because mine sure doesn't want to turn on

Yah, I saw those instructions last year. The instructions do not mention that one of the three wires that go to the basic overhead console lights, also provide battery power to the trip computer. You can see it here in the attachment.

I just pulled my console again, and I discovered that I made a mistake. Earlier today, I looked at the wiring, and mistook the ground wire to the console lamps as one of the trip computer wires. Sorry about that.

The FSM is also wrong on this thing. Disregard the attachment, for it is wrong.

Only other thing I can mention is to hook up the power and ground wires once more, and press the Step button.

Well regardless my screen must be defective. There's a salvage yard a street over from me so they are going to keep an eye out for one that comes in. He said that a lot of people come in looking for those computers since they burn out a lot.

Why won't the part number 56049130aa work? Cause I bought one and I want to install.
It ought to work for a 2004 model year Dakota. Your wiring will be a little different, though. I think that 2002 was when Chrysler started putting the PCI bus into Dakotas.

So do y'all happen to know what the wiring would be for me. I'm not exactly an electrician and I just bought this truck not too long ago so I don't know everything about it yet
You'd follow the 01+ guides that are on this post. If you need to, there is a guy on here named zClif that makes harnesses. Contact him.

Check this thread, there is a lot of information. Or at least should be :)

Thanks Matt for the plug. But like he said I make harnesses and I can help you step-by-step to hooking them up. Mbudden can vouch for my harness as i sold him one, also I have sold over 12 harness for ever year trucks basically. I see you have a 2004 and so do I so we are set there. So if thats the case ill make you one for $29 shipped and that will include the connector to tap into the computer wire that allows for the computer to read whats going on. I also label all my wires so you know exactly which is which. So when you get the harness all you have to do is go to autozone and buy a add a circuit which i did for $7. I hope this helps and dont be nervous. Thanks and if you are interested just send me a message and we can talk
