whats the word on the intrepids? was thinking it might be a roomy cheaper car to take the fam on some road trips. its front wheel drive and a little bigger than most cars. i would want a 2000 or newer, leather would be nice too. i dont know what motor they came with yet and i dont know what the feedback is about it. anybody have some input?

a neighbor of mine had one i didnt mind how it looked with the mellow tint and rims. nothing special just cheap and comfy. my truck is so shitty on gas i dont want to go on trips with it and i wont take her minivan. its all leather with the power sliders and shit, perfect mom ride. she can have it. i wonder how hard they are to work on and if its anything similar to the dak

I doubt its anything like a dakota, but I have never popped the hood... If they had any power I would think about getting one(this coming from a guy with a 3.9). To big for a Neon lol.

i know its nothing like a dak but so far i havent found the dak too hard to work on. i have done alot on toyota trucks and am finding the dodge to be about the same for degree of difficulty. i would hope the intrepid would be similar in that aspect. i wouldnt mind a neon either i guess, never really thought about those. what are they like? wonder which is more reliable.

Want easy to work on? Buy a brand new car and let the dealer do it. My 01 intrepid used to throw the serp. belt every 8-10K miles. I got it for free so never much cared. Besides that it was the best vehicle i ever owned. It had the big v6 and got decent gas mileage, interior was leather/power everything, which was super comfortable when your spending 3-4 hours a day driving. If I came across a good deal on another one I wouldn't hesitate to grab it.

For a little more cash you can step up to a 300M, same LH body style but more comfort and options with the 3.5 standard. The LH cars are nice but do have a few quirks, as stated do not buy on with a 2.7. Ive had great luck with my 300M for the past 4 years now.

I rented a Concord (same car) once it was pretty good little flighty at 70-75mph....I agree spend a little more on the 300 or the Charger with the 3.5 ....

DO NOT GET THE 2.7! you will hate is as its an underpowered boat anchor thats fraught with issues.

i'm going to look for the ones with the good motors, a 3.5 would be nice. i dont know if people around here dont like them and let them go cheap. hope so. thanks for the input

Maybe a Magnum....?

Got the wife an '08 Magnum with a 3.5 about a year ago. Ran it on a nice road trip Chicago <> Branson Mo. and got 28 mpg. Rides and handles great, plenty of go power, seats are a bit stiff but OK. Tons of storage and hands down the best rear hatch I have ever seen. She loves it. The 300 and Charger have issues with access to the trunk. Take a look and have fun. :drive:

Used to own an 04 with the 2.7L.
Those saying it is underpowered never put their foot in it. I used to mess around with people all the time in it. It had a governor at 114 that I hit I don't know how many times, and used to race people with tuned (not riced) Civics and all that and usually ended up winning.
As far as the oiling issues, they're well known, so keep away from the 2.7 for that reason (I sold mine at 90someK miles for that reason).
If you can get the 3.5 it's definitely a powerhouse. I can only think of two V6s ever used in cop cars, and both are the 3.5 V6 from Chrysler (Intrepid it was the biggest engine they offered and now some cities are using the Chargers with it in there.)
They also handle pretty decently for a big car. I used to run Hwy 24 every day to work and back right outside of Colorado Springs and it did really well. Just ask the two cops I got performance awards from! And the other 5 or so that I got off of that highway. Did I mention it had enough power that I lost my license in it???

a 600cc Honda CVCC has enough power to loose your license with in the right circumstance.... :nana:

the 2.7 has 178 hp it has balls :funny: when compared to ricers... :nana:

the 3.5 has 250hp worth the extra cash

lol anyone who thinks a POS intrepid is fast hasn't driven anything fast, especially with a puny 2.7 dog engine in it. The intrepid was always a comprimise between a big luxury car and a cheap family car, and it never did either very well. It rode like crap and it's interior was cheap. Not too mention they aren't anywhere close to reliable.

Never said it was fast, but it has enough power to surprise people, just gotta wind it up to about 3500 for it to wake up and move.
And I figure if they used them as interceptor cars they were fast enough with the 3.5.

And as for having driven fast cars... Well I've driven all of my family's cars, which includes a 510 HP '10 Ranger Rover sport (advertised to do 0-100-0 in under 18 seconds), a modified 07 Shelby GT500 (racing suspension and the performance package, pushing an honest 500 at the wheels at 5000 ft.), a modded Audi Allroad with the 2.7L turbo, a modded Toyota MR2 turbo.
(My uncles are gearheads too lol)
Outside of family cars have driven a 400 HP Eclipse GSX, modded 08 and 09 WRXs, EVO VIII, and regularly ride 600-1400cc sportbikes, including a turbo Hayabusa that runs an 8.8 at 5500 altitude on stock internals, 10 PSI, and E-85.

Now go get that Intrepid and go :drive: :jester:

so should i not even bother, i figure it'll cost me around $4000 to find a sweet one maybe a little less. should i just look into something else for a nicer than civic familyish car so i can park my truck for a day or too. i wouldnt mind the extra space they have and i really want front wheel drive with 4 doors. thanks
p.s. anything feels fast to me, i drive a v6 dak with 305's.

my dads owned 2 97's the first had the 3.3 and went at 247,000 miles and the current one is an lhs with the 3.5 at 120,000 on it.

the lhs is leather, power everything, sunroof its a damn fine automobile we picked it up for like $2500 in 2007
the intrepid was a great car not one issue with it till the transmision went and it was only like a $200 fix
