I'm picking up a copy of 4x4 Evo 2 ASAP. Good thing the Wii is compatible with Gamecube titles. It wasn't rated very highly, but if Gamestop.com is selling it for $5.99 I think I can give it a shot:

Smaller, runs cooler and quieter, and has a 250gb HD for $300. Or if you want to go cheap the Arcades are only $150 now, elites are $250 with a 120gb HD and two games. Target just had the Arcades for $130+$50 gift cards too, so they are getting pretty cheap. I just fixed my old launch xbox that had RROD to sell it then found out everything else got way cheaper FTL
I wouldn't want to do that because the system constantly receives OS updates, and I can imagine an update checking for modifications and fouling something up. Sometimes these updates are mandantory requirements for playing new games.
You're a brave man buying a brand-new piece of Microsoft hardware. I've been on the Nintendo path since '88, but when Nintendo announced that the Wii was going to have last-gen graphics I decided to get an HD gaming system for the eye candy. Early on all I kept reading about was the 360's ridiculously high failure rate, and even my friends with the system were telling me how they had to get it repaired.They have a new 360 that JUST came out. They have had 3 (4 if you count the one that JUST came out) different chips for the 360, each one has lowered heat and consumption but I'm not sure if the current one is still fail proof or not. This new one runs cooler then the last one. I don't know why they couldn't have given it a couple more vents and had like 3-4 fans instead of 2 (one on the new one). I was anti-xbox, but I couldn't pass my first one up at $70 or whatever when at that time they were going for $400 IIRC, then when that broke I got my Elite for $250 after rebate and it has the newest chip in it (other than the NEW one).
It's unreal to me that any company can create a product that obviously unreliable and just not care. At least the asbestos industry thought they could get away without anyone noticing the connection.
I've heard they are loud. One of the things that really annoys me with technology products is that I can go out and buy one version of a product with a harddrive for some amount of money, but then to get a better version with a larger harddrive you have to pay an extra $2 or $3 per GB. Meanwhile, I can go to Best Buy and get a 1GB harddrive for $90.
Oops! Yes, I meant 1TB not 1GB. Good grief, it's not 1997 anymore when I thought I was badass with my 2.1GB super-fast SCSI harddrive!
Yes it's funny how much stuff has changed, hell I remember play games on my grandmas old computer that I'm pretty sure had well under a 1gb hard drive. You can upgrade the 360 drives for cheaper but you are limited to 250gb, if you use a bigger drive than that it will only let you use 250gb of it.
Wow, you got to play games on an ancient computer with less than a 1GB harddrive? Good grief I feel like a fossil! My first computer was the TI Basic. It had no harddrive. The first modern computer (i.e. mouse/keyboard) I ever used had no harddrive: it was a Mac Plus II. Some of the games I had on it were on cassette tapes. It saved data to cassette tapes. I think my first work computer had a 700MB harddrive.
