I'm going to mount a mechanical vac gauge on my steering column. The two gauges I'm considering are the VDO vision and cockpit lines:

Vision:


Cockpit:


I think the top one would match the stock gauges better, but I like the scale and gradation on the bottom one better. The top one also looks like a stock gauge at night, but I haven't been able to find a picture of the bottom one lit up.

Opinions? Does anyone have a cockpit style VDO gauge installed that they can post a night shot of?
 
a gauge pod will never "match" the interior. its always a sexy eye sore... so i wouldn't go for normal looking gauges only for the fact that you want them to blend in, if you have a sexier pair of gauges id just throw those in.. it will only add to the interior.

This is all IMO, but gauge pods are never invisible

VDO are a bit bland visually....but better quality than autometer...

Why do you want/need a VAC guage?

I can handle bland for quality. I'm trying to avoid the "space ship" look too.

I want to put one in because of how much info about the health of your engine you can get out of reading the vac signal. I'm also having some strange idle and performance issues at the moment and it would help a lot to be able to watch vacuum while I drive.

From the descriptions, it looks like those gauges use a stepper motor to movie the needle. Do you know if they will be sensitive like a true mech gauge or will the small fluctuations get smoothed out?

I only have experience with the mech diaphragm type...
