Anyone know of a good walkthrough for an m1 install? I'm wanting to get one of these, but I want to have a good idea of how to do it first.

Thanks, that gives me an idea at least. Pictures would be helpful if possible. haha

I searched. Didn't come up with much. It would be helpful if I could search the word 'm1' but it's too short. haha

Shit, I'm a bit scared to try this sober. I'm not about to try it drinking. haha

Well, keep in mind, I'm new at this. This'll be my biggest job yet, and will have the most potential to fuck shit up. lol.

I do have a question though. Why the oil change after the job is done?

Ahh, makes sense. I've got an oil change coming up in about 1500 miles. Wonder if I can save up enough cash by then.

Well I've got my M1, gasket maker, spray gasket stuff, felpro gaskets, fuel injector o-rings, I'll be picking up a new bypass hose tomorrow. I've run into a bit of a problem though. I can't find torque wrenches in the proper range.

This installation picture says to tighten in increments of 12 in/lbs. I can't find anything that'll go that low that doesn't cost ridiculous money. I'm also having trouble finding a torque wrench that'll do 12ft/lbs. Anyone know where I can find some?

Its really not that bad of an install, took me about 3-4 hours with breaks. But we also had air-tools.

I stole your picture because you have the best writeup I've found. Take it as a compliment. Ugh, $80 is not what I was wanting to hear. haha. How is sears return policy? I might 'rent' one from them.

#21 ·
Haha, I know I was just messing with you. Just take it back the next day and tell them you didn't like the way it works or some BS. Just make damn sure you keep it clean and new. You can rent mine for shipping if you want to.

well that would be damn nice of you. Can I rent your foot pound while I'm at it? How much would shipping be to 47720? I'd return them as soon as I got it installed and running and assured everything was working properly.

EVANSVILLE IN #089 (2.1 mi)
1200 N. WILLOW RD
EVANSVILLE, IN 47711

There is a Harbor Freight right in your area, would be just as expensive to ship mine back and forth then to just buy these two.

Cool, so 20in/lb would be fine then? I don't need the best, I just need functional. haha

I drink. I just don't like beer, and I don't like getting drunk before working on something so expensive. lol

i got my inch pound from harbor for $15, works like it should, for $80 it better be digital. replacin the intake manifold is simple but of course ive done it enough times.

gaskets
180 stat
new bypass hose
maybe new temp sensor
Vaseline -injector o-rings-
2-3 gals of antifreeze
red or orange rtv

also make sure the first thing you do is take compressed air and blow out all the dirt between the intake n valve covers. if not the crap will fall into the lifter valley and its not good.

alright, well I'll check out harbor and freight tomorrow. I also need to get a new t-stat gasket. Thanks for the reminder. I think I've got about everything else.
