I have been wanting to do this for sometime now after i got rid of my gtp, and i want something fast again, going from a mid 13 second dd to a suv sucks, i want a toy and a dd. I want to get a 94-96 or soo style camaro with the lt1, i would love to get the 98+ style with the ls1 but to expensive for me right now, i gotta buy stuff little at a time. anyways i want to make that into a 383 stroker from the lt1, soo what would i need ? I want at least 400hp to the crank, i wanna do heads, cam, rockers. First step im gonna do is buy an lt1 motor from craigs list, tear it down and so on, then get a 4l60 tranny and rebuild it, a shift kit and a high stall trq converter, in my own opinion i think a built auto tranny is just as good as a manual with a good driver. Then last step after having the 383 motor finished is get a shell. This will be a road legal weekend driver. Soo any tips, advise, opinions ???

If the LS1 is to expensive, step back and reconsider a project car.
LS1's are cheap and 400 to the crank is a very easy goal with one.

If you're stuck on LT1's and LS1's....I'd look into putting together something a little more fun and appealing than an ugly, heavy camaro. I've always liked the LSX/RX-7 combos. Better power/weight ratio and you don't see a lot on the road. They make bolt-on kits for them, so it's fairly easy and as stated before, finding a decent donor RX-7 shells are a dime a dozen along with LSX engines.

i like te way you think.even with a stock lt\ls1 they are rather quick,i found a ton of gen 2's around here for under 500,perfect for a swap.their was a guy on here who bought a gen 2 rx-7 with an lt1 that was pretty sweet.hell i bet you could pick one up thats already swapped for cheap.

I have a 1970 Challenger w/383 auto in the garage. It's a freind of mine & he wants to sell it. It has been soda blasted & has a lot of new parts. Engine & trans are rebuilt. He has a k member all redone w/new suspension. I will try to get some pics of it or pm you his contact info if you are interested.

Personally i would build a 70s or 80s camaro. At least those cars had looks. the 34th gen camaros looked too spacey for me. My project would be a 87-88 Camaro Z28 or IROC. I would like it to look as close to stock as possible but be actually fast as hell. looking around the 3rd gen have HUGE potential and they are also not very expensive. nice thing is you can still pick up a clean model for cheap.
