Hmm...not a bad idea? Would this work? LoL
i dont know i have a 2 wheel drive, but some AWD guys remove the front shaft then lock it in 4hi and then they essentially have a rear drive, i dont know though im pretty sure its similar but dont take my advice find out from someone who knows more

I should take the truck to Boyne this summer and try that out! :jester:

How fast can you go until you hit the rev limiter? Would you top out before the 1/8 mile is over?

Depends on what transmission, gears, and size tires you have.

For instance, mine tops out at almost 6000 RPM when I'm doing 60 MPH. It's fast enough for me since I only use it in the dunes.

If someone had a 42/46RE transmission, 3.55 gears, and 31" tires, they would max out at about 80 MPH.

If you really were looking into being able to use your 4x4 on dry pavement, since you have an 00, get the Full Time transfercase. 98-00 the FT case has 2wd/4 FT/4 HI/4 LO. There is a guy out on LI that does a good job with transfercases. Search for Stoykes on DodgeTalk. He had a long thread on changing his case.

Yeah, I forgot to mention my final drive.
3.90 final, the 5-speed auto, and 31" tall tires.

I think that'll be a no-go anyway. I was playin' around in the dirt yesterday and mashed the gas in 4L. It was fast for awhile until the truck shifted itself into nuetrel. :slap: I thought I broke something! :jester:
So I guess its a safety feature of a sort in the '05's?

I've never heard of that and don't see why Dodge would have done something like that. The only way it could have shifted out of 4lo is if you came to a stop.

I don't know, maybe I did break something? I never came to a stop. I launched, gears went 1,2,3....nuetrel. Then I stopped the truck and put it back in 2wd and said "I'll never do that again". :nono:

It has the electronic 4wd where you just turn a switch. Maybe after a certain speed the computer throws the transfer case back in nuetrel?

Someone else with an '05 wanna try it?

They may have written different programming for the TCCM as that being a safety feature. Try it again and see if it'll do it with repetition.

Yea...I'm going to take my front driveshaft off and see what happens when I drive in 4low. Can't wait. Should I do it before or after I change my lubricants to Royal Purple in the differential and tranny?

How the heck does the front driveshaft come off?

Pictures?

Also, I need specific torque specs to put it back on right? Or can I just mark it and write down how many turns?

Boy that's a lot of fiction. Do a search here and on other Dodge forums and see if you find any such thing.
