That is right. My well ex friend is dead from cancer at 36. He died yesterday on my birthday. Even though he and I are not friends anymore it is still sad. He was having stomach pains back in october and went to the doctor and had some tests done. Well from what I heard he did not have insurance and it took him awhile to get it and I am not sure how long it took him to get it but by the time he went back for his results and they started treatment it seemed to be to late. It moved to his lungs and brain. He was moved to hospice on the 21st and died yesterday at like 6:50 pm. He leaves behind a son who is 12 and my daughter and him were born within a month of eachother and were good friends when they were tots. Poor kid had to see his dad wither away. He was like 90 lbs when he died. I have no idea what sort of cancer it was and really, do you get screened for cancer at 36? R.IP. Kevin 12/16/73 to 12/22/09. Point of this thread, life is fragile and never let a day slip away.

sorry for your loss. cancer is a bitch! i have lost a few friends and relatives to it.

Sorry for your loss, I feel their pain though. My father died 2 years ago, 41 years old... Losing a father and being young sucks man.

My thoughts and prayers go out to them.

live life to the fullest. you never know when the almighty hand will come down and bitch slap the life out of you.

that's sad that he left behind a pre-teen. I hope the kid makes it through the next 8 years alright. going through puberty, high school, etc. without your dad there to guide you, coach you, mentor you, and to be there to hold you up...that's going to be tough.

Yea, early detection is the key with Cancer, but most cancer screenings don't start till you're into your 40s. I think prostate screenings become regular when you hit 50.

I wish I could say that cancer screenings will get better now that they passed the healthcare bill, but I know that ain't gonna happen, Fuck, just a few months ago, the Feds announced that they didn't want to cover mamograms for women until they turn 50 (currently they start at 40, right?) sure, the backlash caused them to reverse that decision within a few days, but still...they WANT to do it, they NEED to do it...

yea...and there won't be any rationing of care or death panels.

Sorry about your friend. it's a sad deal all around.

Thank you guys. I am thinking of him tonight and it is really starting to hurt. I posted a story about him in off topic and I just realized what a good friend he was to me and how maybe I was not to him. I really wish he would have tried to make amends with me. He is one of the few friends that I had from school days. You know he helped my ex and I out by letting us make payments on a car he had to help us out. What really sucks is I just do not see how the doctors could have helped him any better. The cancer hit him so fast. I do not even see how a yearly test would have helped him.

Sorry for your loss man, death doesn't discriminate on age..

About a year ago, a friend of mine died at the age of 18, so I know what its like to see someone die way too early

Sorry man. The big C word...sucks. Luckily these days it's a little better to deal with when it's caught early, but sometimes that doesn't happen. Lost a lot of my family to it...
