·I guess this is a given, but did you check the fluid in the clutch master cylinder to make sure that's not your problem before you buy and install a new clutch kit? Just asking. :huh:

i did. 1, 2, 3 grinds and 4th, 5th slips.

I've never had the (dis)pleasure of having to change a clutch. do you have to drop the trans to do it?

i didnt see that the OP's truck is 4x4, that will be a little harder

I want to say flat rate quotes a 4x4 dakota to R&R the clutch is around 6 hours, maybe a little more.
Its going to be a little harder and take a bit more time, because of the transfer case. Once you get that out of the way (Im making it sound to easy lol) then it wont be that hard at all.

the level of difficulty of dropping a trans is subjective

Yea, it's a pain of course when they go out...but not too much of a deal usually to replace them. Had to get my changed a little while ago. I think www.rockauto.com sells them. They have some pretty ncie prices. I'd check there first.
