I have a P0720 code causing my truck to rejected for emissions.

Changed the output sensor on the tranny and on the rear differential

reset codes but it comes back on after 15 miles per hour.

Any suggestions ??

Thanks

I can't help with what may be wrong but the 0720 is associated with the transmission sensor and not the differential sensor.

Is your speedo working below 20 mph and are or have the ABS and Brake light been on?

according to my book and my code scanner - flash code #15 OBD - 0720 = low output speed sensor , RPM above 15 mph , side notes = output shaft speed is less than 60 rpm with vehicle speed above 15mph"
....maybe something else is going on with the wiring...chase the wires.....just a thought...

speed o is working fine and there have been no abs or brake light problems.

I figured it was the tranny sensor and changed that one first.

I need to check the wires as johncs78 suggests.

Thanks for the response's

I have the same error code(P0720) and the ABS and Brake lights come on randomly...I am comfortable working on my car but not sure where everything is and usually use the boards "How to" posts with pics...can someone lend some assistance(pictures..etc) on how to replace the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) on the drivers side of the tranny tail shaft...I have no idea what that looks like..

I wanted to try the method from this post http://www.dakota-durango.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81457&highlight=p0720 but not successful in locating what I need...

Thank you in advance for the responses.

I just replaced mine. It is on the drivers side bottom of the tranny. It is molded plastic (even the tightening nut) and has an electrical plug with 2 small pins in it. It is not real tight in the tranny, and you want to be careful when you snug up the new sensor. Put a pan under it to catch the fluid, and have the new plug in your hand so that you can put it in quickly! Advance Auto has them for $17.99.

After you fix it the code will clear or disconnect the negative battery cable and turn it to on for 30 seconds

Just had this come on in 02 Dakota while spinning my tire coming in to mu shop.
