I was searching through the forums for cheap ways to make my truck more fun to drive and came across the TM mod. It takes about 30 minutes if you wire it into a switch, or about 30 seconds if you just clip the wire.

Basically there's a yellow wire with a green tracer on the plug closest to the front. Clip it, or clip it and run to a switch, it's your choice. I opted to run it to a switch for while I'm towing etc.

Here are a couple of pictures.

Overall it was worth the half hour of work, but nothing dramatic. Shifts at or near WOT are a bit firmer. I have a transgo kit and an AFE CAI sitting on my work bench that will be going in soon and also an '02 Jeep TCM.

No need for a switch really as the TCM/PCM's TMR only comes into effect at/near WOT shifts.

BTW - It does NOT affect the actual shifting of the trans, it simply stops the PCM from cutting power during shifts.

I prefer to have the switch to reduce stress on the transmission while shifting under heavy throttle while towing. And yes, thanks, I did know that it reduced throttle. The shifts are "firmer" because interrupting the torque management signal stops the truck from cutting the throttle back while the transmission is shifting, this makes the shift seem more abrupt.

I suppose it would depend on the tune. I have read that the superchips tuner disables torque management on all but the towing program. No, this doesn't throw any codes or lights.

so i can cut this wire and leave it and it won't affect its drivability or install a toggle switch in between and turn it off when we go to the track? by the way i have a b&g tune with a MSAINE valve body amongst a lot of other bolt ons

You can cut it and leave it, but it will increase wear on your clutch packs so some, including myself, have installed a switch to turn it back on when I don't feel the need for hard shifts.

Don't cut the wire just pull it out. That way you can replace it if you want to.

Switches are a dumb idea with this mod, since the harder and firmer your shift is, the less wear on your transmission. Wear occurs when you slowly slip into gear. This is done for ride quality at the expense of more wear on the transmission.

Dumb idea? I don't think so. There is a lot more affected by the torque management system than just clutch packs. Softer shifts under heavy loads help ease the wear on the entire drivetrain, including the u-joints, transfer case, and rear differential. While the truck is under load with a trailer I think it's a perfectly acceptable idea to turn the torque management system back online.
