I personally don't care for oiled cotton air filters, so I've always been an AFE guy. I installed one of their CAI's today and I like it a lot. It really brought out the grunt since it removed the intake silencer. The throttle response was instantly better, to a degree, but I won't know for sure what kind of gains I will get until I've gone through a couple tanks of gas.

I'll post pics in the AM.

Nice, I'm partial to the aFe intakes myself. I'm running the 5.2L/5.9L intake on my lil 3.9L :D. Wished I had a dryflow filter :(, since it didn't come with one Used I'm using my oiled K&N on it cause I'm cheap.

thats a pretty expensive intake isnt it?

That is a myth...to an extent. All it takes is about a 5 minute idle adn maybe a normal 5 mile drive for the pcm to readjust the the fuel mixture and your set.
I would have to agree with you. The day after I installed (15 miles afterwords) it I started to notice more of a difference. I've noticed a slight increase in mid-top end acceleration and better throttle response and a great sound.

270$ for a plastic 5$ tube and a 7$ filter that may get you 1.nothing horsepower :rotflmao:. I bet they even claim that they spent mucho denero in devolping this thing
This comment, however, I disagree with. You must not understand the costs associated with R&D and the overhead that goes into producing a product and how the volume of sales affects the price. The equipment used to make the pipe, the wages paid to the operators, management, packaging, the electricity used to light the plant it was made in, and all the costs associated with developement have to be rolled into a product. Add that together with the fact that this probably isn't their most popular item, they have fewer intakes to spread that price out on.

Do you have a link to the kit, I have been looking at some, even the cheapy ones selling on ebay since looking at 100 different ones they are all looking the same to me now.. lol

Also as corny as it sounds disconnect your battery while you put the new CAI on, when finished reconnect it, take it for a spin around the block, you had just reset your computer and it will automatically adjust to the new CAI.

I totally understand the whole cost involved in bringing a new product to market. I manage an automotive repair facility and I could break down costs alot more than what the average person may think is involved in running such a place, so I am not totally ignorant. My point is that I doubt that much R&D actually went into this product at all, I mean how much does it take to make a round curved tube, it's not like it is routed anyway special or has any certain features to it that make it stand out above the rest except maybe that it is plastic.

IMO all these intakes are falling by the wayside because more and more people are realizing that they actually don't improve anything all that much based on the cost...for most people it is a placebo affect, they want to feel a difference and it sounds different so there must be a difference. Don't get me wrong I think that there may be a slight(very slight) advantage to these and I probably give $50 for one but never any more than that, there simply not worth it.

I like mine combined with a bbk 70mm tb and throttle response is lightning quick. Add a 5-speed manual and 4.56 gears and its a fun combo.

Yeah, I've always owned trucks with manual transmissions but when I was looking for a truck I simply couldn't find one with a manual trans. God I miss my 6 speed cummins.

Btw, I lived in Idaho for 6 years, up in Salmon.
