Looks like i've got some work cut out for me.....go out this morning (got in from work at 3 am this morning) and there is yellow fucking road paint all over the drivers side of my truck! Wheel wells, mud flaps, exhaust tips, bottom of front fender/door, bottom of back fender - god damn stuff is everywhere. Thank god that I put tons of Armor All on my fender liners/mudflaps. Looks like it is going to come off , but just had to rant...

Worst part is, I didn't see a painting crew anywhere on the way home....

Clay bar and cleaner wax will take it off of the paint and make you panels smooth as a baby's butt. Scotch brite on the rubber stuff should work fine.

Same thing happened to me last year..I used lacquer thinner and a rag...took about an hours...man, were my arms tired...

The claybar & cleaner wax didn't work on the4 white road paint I got on mine

Call your local DOT office. they may have some money for you.

I was on an interstate that was divided only by a concrete wall, snow plow was going the other way and tossed a chunk of ice over the wall and hit my window, cracked the glass from side to side! (normally there's a shoulder there, but due to construction, both directions of traffic were right up against the concrete barrier)

My dad (who works for the state) said that DOT is responsible and carries an insurance policy to pay out against any damages they cause to private vehicles. I never did call though--we traded the 'Rango in before I got around to fixing the glass and sending the bill to DOT.

if they had just painted the lines, and failed to put up signs saying so, then they DEFINITLY owe you for the paint damages. it's not a sign that you were riding the yellow and driving unsafely/illegally--you're allowed to cross over it you know!? turning left, passing a slower vehicle, etc.

I called my local office and tried the same approach - they just started to blow smoke up my ass - said that I shouldn't be driving so close to the painting crew - I told them that there wasn't even a god damn sign up anywhere, let alone a painting crew - apparantly that is "impossible" according to them - good news is it came off with a lot of scrubbing and swearing.

What about rock chips when they chip seal (oil/gravel) the ENTIRE FUCKING ROAD for 3 miles? I got a nice chip from an oncoming vehicle right in my vision, I've thought about calling the county about it.

unfortunately, I don't think that would work. every road has gravel on it, on the shoulder, etc. and they cannot control when another private vehicle picks up a rock and chips your window.

in this instance, the damage was caused directly from one of their vehicles on the road, which is why my dad said they would have covered it if I called them about it. (give exact time, location, etc. so they can verify if a truck was on that route at that time, etc.)

I'm kinda surprised about them saying to pound sand about the yellow paint though. if it's worth the hassle, maybe call a different office, or a central office instead of the local one?

Depends on the state and who you talk to. Just remember that they are used to having smoke blown up their asses. I drove snow plow one winter and a guy tried to say that a plow (not me) threw a rock and broke his windshield. Unfortunately in a town of less than 800 people, everyone knows what everyone else drives. When the guy met that plow that morning, he was driving a completely different vehicle than he claimed. Oops.

So anyway, it usually only works if you know the exact time, place (mile marker, etc), and even sometimes it wouldn't hurt to have pics.

Yeah but they graveled the entire goddamn road for no reason, funny how I never get rocks in my windshield unless the county gravels a road. I hope it doesn't turn into a full blown crack or I'm going to be fucking pissed.

well...unfortunatly, that's just one of the things we all have to live with. asphalt is nothing more than gravel and tar. when they "chip and seal" the road, it's a cheap maintenance tactic to keep the road in decent shape, without having to go through the expense of re-paving it, which they can't afford to do every other year, unless you wanna pay a shit ton more in taxes.

would you prefer they skip the chip and seal, and let the road start breaking apart, creating pot holes, rough spots, and...uh...gravel? i know it sucks, but if it happens a lot to you, you should consider upgrading your insurance to full coverage with zero deductible

Its a sign. Paint it and have the only solar yellow QC on Dak-Dur
