i found this transmission on ebay 4 minutes before the auction ended.... it is advertised as a 46RE, i didnt have time to research if it actually is because the auction was ending. the transmission is located 15 minutes from me so no shipping :) and i scored it for $71!!! yes.. Seventy-One Dollars!

item number 390068719856 dont know if it will still show... but heres item description

Grand Cherokee 46 RE transmission in great shape. Removed from a running Jeep with about 92,000 miles. We tested the tranny thoroughly and it did not leak, whine, or make noise. Fluid was clear. Fits all 8 cylinder Grand Cherokees 93-95.

to my knowledge i thought that pre-1996 was 46 RH, and 1996 and up was the 46RE but i may be mistaken. he advertised as a 46RE so idk. ill attach the photo that was on the auction... will this transmission work for me? not looking to put right in truck, just want the case to do a performance rebuild so theres no downtime for my truck. i have the worst luck so it probably wont work but it was only 71 bucks so it was worth a shot! transmission specialists please chime in on this. and also take a look at my 46re rebuild thread i need some pointers! thanks guys... -ryan

that is the only picture. i figured it was probably a lost cause but worth a shot. i know 46rh is hydraulic controlled and 46re is electronic, but does that mean the case is different too? idk i need input fro people about this and rebuilding my 46re

so i called the seller, it is a company that only deals with jeep/mopar. i told him i was worried about it being a 46rh because it is older, but he said its a 46RE and wouldnt have posted it as an RE if it wasnt. only thing he said was that its for 4wd, but to just use my tail section and it will work. anybody? lol im lost

If it is a 46re you can swap over you tailshaft, and it will work.

alright thats good news. does the tailshaft have internal parts included in the rebuild kit? or does the tailshaft not have any and a rebuild is just the case internals. also if i go to pick this up how can i tell if its actually an RE or if its an RH

Yes the overdrive section is in the tailshaft, so all the clutches & seal for the overdrive section will need to go in there. It will look diffrent that your re, or the side where the shafted bolts up. the plugs for the electronics will be diffrent.

i just have to make sure this is an RE or my plan is nixed and ill just be without a truck while im rebuilding the tranny oh well. but if it is then hell yea. just still curious on difference between case on re and rh cause if im doing a patc rebuild i dont need any stock internal parts right?

i am aware that my tailsection will need to be swapped over due to the 4wd on this one, but is there anyway you guys could confirm if this is a 46RH or 46RE by using these pictures? the guy said it will definately fit 93-95 jeeps with the 5.9 and i told him pre 96 was 46RH but it was listed as 46RE and he said he wouldnt have listed the wrong thing so it is what he had it listed as. i am confused, im just hoping this is an RE so i can rebuild it and swap it right into the truck and swap my tailsection over. otherwise ill have to drop my trans, rebuild it, then put it in which would mean no truck for however long it takes me to rebuild. if you guys can help me out here it would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!

From what i can see that trans in the pic has a 3 wire conector sticking up out of the case. According to my sources the rh has a 3 wire plug & the re has a 8 wire plug. Maybe somebody else on here will give you a 2nd opinion.
